Patmos Café — Restaurant in Budapest

What I really loved about this place was its location. Eventhough it is located right in Budapest Down Town, this particular place (Joszef Nádor tér) is so quiet and relaxing. We enjoyed Gnocchi and 2 Big Burger Menus and paid about 20€, a great price. Maybe not the cheapest of Budapest, but still a very good value/price. We visited this place twice and the service was great in both occasions. In the first occasion, the lady made a brave effort to speak in our language and even tried to make an iced coffee (eventhough it was not anywhere in the menu), as we told her about this special drink. That was definitely a great welcome, in contrast with some... other cases. What seemed as a problem and it was kind of is the fact that we had a poor communication. You' d expect that people in Belvaros-Lipotvaros would speak english (as those are the really good areas of Budapest), however not speaking english is a major problem anywhere in Budapest. This is the first time I have encountered such treatment of guests. We were seated at a table, our order was taken, food was served — and then we were asked to move because apparently the table had been reserved. This is absolutely unacceptable. A staff mistake is the restaurant’s problem, not the guests’ who have already started their meal. On top of that, no compensation for the inconvenience was offered. We visited Patmos Café in Budapest for breakfast – the place looks cozy and the breakfast presentation was nice. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t meet our expectations.

We had to cancel our Café Americano because it took too long, and the staff messed up our order and forgot a few items. While they did apologize, the delays and confusion really affected our overall experience.
