As soon as we walked in, host was dismissive, but sat us. We ordered 2 cocktails, spaghetti bolognese, and I asked for a caesar salad without bacon due to a pork allergy. We waited a very long time for the food, despite the place not being very busy, and once it came the salad was loaded with bacon. I immediately pointed it out to the waiter, same dismissive host, and he took it away with an attitude. The kitchen clearly just tried to pick through the salad and pull off the bacon, then loaded it with parmesan. I immediately found bacon still in it and realized it would be useless to send it back again, but could not eat it because it would make me ill. The waiter would not come to our table after seeing I had not touched the salad again, actively ignoring us, we had to tell him we wanted to pay so we could leave. When he finally came over, he asked what the problem was this time. We told him there is still bacon in it, but he tried to argue and say it was tomato. However, I'm a chef, and can tell the difference between the halved cherry tomatoes that were in the salad and the crispy bacon that I left presented on the fork. Would not have been so upset about the mistakes if he hadn't had such a bad attitude about it. I would not recommend this place to anyone based on their poor service, ordinary food, and copy/paste atmosphere. There are plenty places much, much, MUCH better in Budapest than...
Read moreWhatever happened to this place over the last couple of months is positively surprising. The kitchen was lousy, basement located restrooms were filthy and a number of waiters and a waitress were problematic - witnessed an incident where a Latin American girl were angry at a waiter, accusing him with a verbal abuse while using the ladies restroom (have been a witness to another similar situation earlier in that day too). However since about August, believe led by a very kind waitress, Bettina, who has been working there for over six years I think, the management seems to be paying extra attention to turnaround the entire place possibly under the supervision of a new location manager in charge. Nevertheless, as a result, the Pointer at Bajcsy Zsilinszky turned into another joint: clean kitchen, basement and restrooms, attentive and smiling service personnel - namely: Kriszti, Anna, Nóri, Peti, Dénes, Ricsi and Szabi - who replaced the former low level staff and renewed outdoor tables and chairs. It is now highly recommendable, and increasingly becoming an enjoyable neighbourhood spot I always wanted it to be....
Read moreGood choice of beers, and this is mainly a pub with good food. A bar restaurant to be precise. The staff were perfectly friendly and attentive for me although I understand some might find them as uninterested. Basically, this was not "hello can I help, you?" - this was bar staff doing a job and there whenever you signalled for attention. The Hungarian pizza was really delicious, proper thin crust, fresh toppings and a nice spicy heat from the peppers. The apple tart was fantastic. Great British Bake Off quality pastry, really tasty not too sweet apple, a touch of Christmas spice and slices of orange with the custard. I would return just for the apple tart! Nice to see a good selection of beers on offer. I do like the Brehers Dak which they have on bottle, but they also have on draft a less potent but very pleasant Bernard Draft dark lager. The gents toilets were clean like a good hotel. I would certainly...
