We visited this restaurant yesterday. At first, we were very impressed by the attitude of (presumably) the owner. He set up a table for us in the shade and was very courteous.
Then the problems began. The staff was unfriendly and unprofessional. They completely ignored the tables and didn’t respond when we tried to call them. The table was only set once. After that, we had to repeatedly ask for spoons and forks.
Fish was served without lemon — which was strange, though not necessarily a minus. Every restaurant has its own way of serving.
In total, three waiters served us: woman with gold earrings and a bob haircut man with a beard woman with a black hairband
1 – Very unfriendly 2 – Deliberately ignored us 3 – Seemed constantly scared
I ordered tiramisu, waited 10 minutes for someone to come over. The bearded man finally noticed me, nodded that he’d come over (since he was delivering another order), and then just left. Even after 10 more minutes, he didn’t return and continued ignoring me. At that point, I went to talk to the staff. They started telling me that “the tiramisu is on its way.” It took 20 minutes to bring out a ready-made tiramisu (which was clearly sitting in a fridge. I saw it) — that’s ridiculous. After I complained, the tiramisu magically appeared at our table within seconds.
The man who welcomed us (at the beginning) said it would be on the house, but when we went to pay — it was still on the bill. They didn’t remove it, and my father had to remind them.
While we were at the restaurant, the table next to us ended up leaving without eating — no one brought them anything for over 30 minutes.
We didn’t want to leave a bad review since things were technically resolved. But soon after, both my father and I started feeling sick. We’ve been running to the bathroom all day. We didn’t eat anything else together that day besides in this restaurant. And the one dish we both had — chicken Caesar salad — is likely what gave us food poisoning.
That was the last straw. I absolutely do not recommend this place unless they replace their unprofessional staff and take proper measures to ensure customers don’t get food poisoning.
To prevent anyone from claiming that we weren’t there or that this is fake — I’m attaching a screenshot of the payment made at...
Read moreWe thought we were on the hidden camera and someone was trying to pull a prank on us. By far the worst restaurant I went to in Budapest. I would describe the serving part as total chaos. We entered the restaurant, we were accompanied to the table and that was it for the next 30 minutes. Seeing that no one was paying attention to us, I took a menu from a neighboring table. Unfortunately, it took about 35 minutes before I managed to place the order for three people. We were in no rush, so there was no stress. After 40 minutes we got the drinks. After another 20 minutes I received the food, mama mia what a food. The pasta bolognese and parmesan pasta were much more unsuccessful than my grandmother who never cooked pasta used to cook. The surprise was the traditional Hungarian goulas. Or at least that's what they call the worst mess I've ever tasted. A stale, sour soup, a real culinary disaster. I cook and I love Hungarian goulas, but to sell something out of date and spoiled seems vile to me. I left the plate as I received it, not before exposing the only piece of meat I found inside what I described as being similar to the food some give to pigs. I just described our hungarian experience in a italian restaurant. Tragic:( The funny part in all of these was the serving and the bills. In my life I have never seen such a disorganized team. While I waited for the menu, the 30 minutes :), I had the chance to observe how the orders were wrong for at least 6 tables, and the payment notes for everyone, but absolutely everyone in the...
Read moreThe food at Si Italian was exceptional, but unfortunately, the service was unacceptable and felt discriminatory. This criticism pertains to a specific staff member—a young, short, and very slender male waiter. The rest of the staff was wonderful espacially the older man with the white beard and christmas hat.
When we arrived, we were told we couldn’t sit at a four-person table because we were only two. Instead, we were seated near the kitchen door, where the constant movement of staff was disruptive. Later, a single man was seated at the very table we were denied. This felt deeply discriminatory, particularly as my wife wears a hijab. After a discussion, we were finally allowed to sit where we wanted.
However, the same waiter then commented, unprompted, that we seemed very angry and had likely had a long day. When we ordered more food, he remarked that we were eating a lot. In response, I joked that frustration makes you hungry, to which he replied that he hadn’t eaten all day and could “understand my situation” because he constantly deals with “people like us.”
Finally, he spoke with his colleagues in English, despite all of them speaking Italian throughout the evening. He made derogatory remarks about how exhausting it is to deal with angry customers and how hard his job as a waiter is.
This behavior was unprofessional, rude, and discriminatory. While the food was wonderful, the poor treatment we experienced would make it hard to recommend Si Italian to anyone. Discrimination has no place in hospitality. Atleast get another waiter...
