Tökmag Vegan Street Food — Restaurant in Budapest

I have already posted this on "Happy Cow", but let me do it here also :

Absolutely super! I have been there several times in the beginning of June 2022, January 2023 and end of October/beginning of November 2023 :

Should I say one single and not very important negative thing: The entrance is a bit awkward - quite small. There you place your order and at least one person speaks English quite well. Then you walk downstairs and there, there, there ... a very nice quite big, clean and modern room. There you can also order more things if you want to. As I was in Budapest for dental care and as I'm also a vegan... Here I can have two sorts of very good soups with a bit of bread. The two last times in January 2023 and November 2023 I not only ate there, but I also used the take away option a lot. They have some very, very nice cakes and desserts! And I also took some quinoa salads and other things like that and all that, I put in the minifridge in my hotel. I will probably have to go to Budapest once a year for almost the rest of my life (I hope for perhaps - why not ? 30 years still :-)) and I cannot imagine doing that without going to Tökmag at least once during my visit! I forgot to say that the young staff is absolutely charming...

I tried the cukinni burger (if I remember well, it was a burger with curry taste mostly) with gluten-free buns, and, to be honest, it was very tasty even if I would have added fries if I could. Anyway I recommended this place. As the burger was good and not too expensive (~6€), and as I was very hungry, I took another sandwich, with tofu basilic inside of it, and a very tasty cream inside of it. I liked it so much! (It costed almost 1000ft) Also, the lunchboxs were very good looking and if I could I would have tried it. Finally I would say that it was a little too small for someone truly hungry but anyway, it doesn’t change how good it tastes. You cannot eat inside of the store (well technically you can but there is only two places) but eating outside is no big deal. It’s cute though inside, and the girl who served us was professionnal (hard sometimes to communicate but she had basic English so we made it!). It’s a pleasure to eat somewhere you can find gluten-free options and all...

The place has a very nice atmosphere and decent service. Outside seating is very pleasant. But the burgers were disappointingly bland, tasteless. Felt like an Instagramer’s paradise - beautiful food and place, but limited substance. The other dishes might be better, but it was hard to imagine that they would live up to the perfect reviews. I would recommend going a bit more crazy with those spices and flavors ;)

I was tempted to give 1 star to compensate somewhat for the masses of high ratings, but my fair (non-strategic) rating is 3 stars.
