Read moreI had an enjoyable and fun meal here when I decided to have dinner at the beach. Even though it was a bit dark, I loved the breeze and the quiet wave sounds that came with it. Of course it was humid but wasn't oppressive. This is Bali after all.
The table and chair was comfortable, the beach was ridiculously clean and I loved the lulling sound of waves as I ate. The menu was easy to navigate and the waiter was friendly and efficient.
We started with the salmon ceviche which was refreshing, light and combined with the seaweed superbly. The pork rib meanwhile was incredibly cooked. Tender moist delicious meat perfectly marinated and cooked. The portion is generous and very filling.
The soft shell crab to me had a little stumble. The batter was way too hard to be enjoyed in the beginning. But as the gravy slowly soaked into it, it became easier to chew. But because it became soaked, you lose the crunchy drier texture. Personally I like my soft shell crab to be a bit crunchy, so I didn't quite fully enjoy this dish. Improve the batter and it will be a different.
The cheese cake dessert on the other hand was yummy. The mix of the flavours and components came together really well and brought an end to a great evening.
If you come on Friday, you get a superb fire eater and fire dancing show while you have your dinner. It's fun and I recommend you come before 7.45pm if you wish to see it.
Another dish you should seriously consider is the lobster laksa. I had this the next day. Incredible flavors. Light yet punchy. The umami in it is incredible. Slowly taste the soup and your tongue...

I ordered a simple ice cream at what’s supposed to be a luxury resort. Before I could even consider ordering a drink, the staff slammed down the bill like I’d committed a felony. Their payment system? Broken. “Terminal issues,” they shrugged. I explained my wallet was in the car and I’d pay afterward. Logical, right?
Wrong.
Suddenly, the staff became obsessed with my payment method. They interrupted us 10 times in 15 minutes: “Do you have cash?” “Do you have a card?” I just told you—repeatedly—where my wallet was. Are you worried I’ll vanish over $2?
Instead of solving the problem, they forced me to march 15 minutes across the resort in 33°C heat (parking is in another hemisphere, naturally) to retrieve my wallet. All to “prove” I could afford their absurdly overpriced drinks. By the time I returned, my ice cream was soup, my patience was ash, and the staff still hovered like vultures.
We finally threw cash on the table and left. The kicker? They made their payment failure feel like my shame.
To Westin Bali: If you’re going to charge luxury prices, train your staff to respect guests—not harass them over petty change. Your desperation for $2 ruined what should’ve been a relaxing experience.
Advice to travelers: Bring running shoes. You’ll need them to escape the payment...
