This review is written from the perspective of a father, traveling with wife and 5 year old son.
The “Westin Nusa Dua” is the #1 choice, not only in Nusa Dua, but in Bali overall, for families who are looking for a truly relaxing, “all inclusive” (more on this later), paradise of a vacation with perks for Marriott Platinum members.
—- LOCATION Perfect blend of private resort + local exploration that makes it all-inclusive to me.
There’s a free hotel shuttle that goes to the nearby village, with local shops and restaurants of various cuisines (if you want to take a break from Balinese food).
There’s also a nearby stretch of shops and massage parlors that is a quick 10 minute walk from the resort. Go here for extremely affordable (
Read moreFirst and foremost, I have all the staff to thank for my stay. I visited Westin my my parents and I specifically chose Westin because I knew they would be taken care of well. And Westin staff did exactly that. I cannot thank everyone enough from the day we checked in till the day we checked out. There are some names here that I want to mention. But I want to make it clear that everyone played a part and I cannot possibly put the name of all the staff that I met here. I wish I could! But I have placed some in trip advisor and google reviews as much as I could.
Erlin - Ikan Restaurant I want to Than Erlin from Ikan restaurant for taking care of my parents. I know how busy she can get, but Erlin takes the time to remember us and always put us at ease even when she is busy. She is a very competent staff, her PR skills are excellent and she wears her service with a big heart. She is always warm to us and because of that, my parents took a liking to her and often visited Ikan for snacks and drinks. They knew they will be in good hands over there. Erlin also manage to suit our food order to our allergy needs during one of the dinner. This is absolutely outstanding as the restaurant staff were swamped with guests, I mean it was a full house. Despite, she is always attentive and nice. She is a role model.
Tikka - Front Office We checked in with some needs and conveyed to her. Despite rooms was already assigned to us thru Bonvoy app, we wanted two rooms with King size beds. Because of this, Tikka had to reassign our rooms. We would like to thank Westin for making our original rooms prepared well in advance. Because of the changes we wanted, there was a small delay to getting into our rooms. But it was completely understandable because we wanted those king size beds for both ourrooms. Also, we wanted proximity to our parents as they are aged. That created some work for her. At the meantime, we booked lunch at Ikan and went for it first. Tikka was so nice to inform us that once the rooms are ready, she would WhatsApp us. This leaves a lot of anxiety out of the picture. She also reassured us that most likely it would be no issues to meet our requirements. She had the rooms ready in no time! Texted us well in advanced and arranged for our bags to be delivered promptly. What a super staff! She also asked if we had any other needs and informed us should we require anything, please do not hesitate to call for service. Tikka is a miracle worker.
Sutopo - Janitor While walking along the pool, my wife stumbled in between some tiles and her sandal’s sole gave way. Being close to the hotel, she decided to go back and replace her sandal. While walking back, Sutopo saw that the sole was coming off and volunteered to put it back together with some glue he had in his toolkit. I mean, he doesn’t have to do it. But to even genuinely care and volunteer to help is just astounding. He made my wife’s day. We thanked him of course, but cannot help but to think how thoughtful he was. What an amazing character Sutopo was. Forever, we will remember him for what he has done for us.
Cok Ade - Prego For a very young staff he has far exceeded the expectations for his work. He is deliberate, courteous and always anticipating our concerns. He brought the menu picture to the table. Assisted us with describing the menu and he even asks about food allergies. The level of his product knowledge is well beyond what is needed. Coupled with his super warm and concern service makes him an asset to Prego. We enjoyed our dinner at Prego thoroughly, but essentially it was the treatment that we received from Cok Ade and the rest of the staff that made a whole lot of difference to our dining experience. What an asset Ade is to Westin.
Susi - Spa's director The spa’s director, Susi, approached me after my session to find out how I was doing. She is always concern about our experience and found many ways to make it better for us. She genuinely had our...
Read moreWe had a good 7 night stay at the Westin with some issues due to the main pool being closed for a day and noise due to a corporate event.
Highlights great super friendly service particularly at the heavenly spa (which was truly heaven), the kids club, reception, around the pool and the breakfast, Velada and Prego restaurants Shade and seating space around the pool, we loved the huts and quality comfort of the pool loungers after many holidays where it was a hunger games to get a lounge near the pool it was relaxing to always be able to get a spot to watch the kids. 2 bedroom suite - while it could do with renovation and updates after a fair bit of wear and tear the space was much appreciated and the beds were very comfortable. The big new tvs (3 in total!) could also stream Netflix which was great. Two well equipped bathrooms including high quality toiletries was much appreciated. The housekeeping team was very attentive with two room services a day and kept us well hydrated with complementary bottled water. Heavenly spa- I enjoyed a beautiful massage and escape to the heavenly spa, it was a special place and I wish I had a massage earlier so I could have gone again. While it was more extensive than other massage options on the beach it was a special quiet retreat from the outside world. If you want a cheaper option the Sofitel had beach side massages for $30 aud. Breakfast buffet- the breakfast buffet was a big highlight with high quality options and a lot of diversity including western, Asian and Indian options. It included fresh eggs and omelettes, a crepe, waffle and pancake stand and my personal highlight was the amazing frozen smoothie bowls, fresh fruit and beautiful pastries. Complementary treats while sitting around the pool was a lovely touch, we had fruit ice, ice cream and frozen fruit while we were there which was very fun. Location - The beach area was beautiful with a great amount of shade from the lovely trees in the afternoon. I loved reading my book and watching the horizon. It was very peaceful. My husband and I also enjoyed the walking track each morning which goes along the resorts in nusa dua. We also walked to the Bali collection a couple of times and got the free shuttle back. Coffee from the lobby - loved my take away oat iced latter coffee every day from the lobby even for a Melbourne coffee snob.
What could be improved? the main pool depth was a bit of an issue for my family. The main pool was 2 metres deep and the kids section of the pool was between 1 metre to 1.4 metres. There was a very small toddler pool. My kids are aged 8 and 11 and can both swim but I didn’t want them to go in the main 2 metre pool without me which left them in the kids section most of the time. This may impact some families or other travelers who aren’t strong swimmers as the main pool may not be appropriate. I saw a couple of people step off the step into the pool without realizing the depth. There was another 1.2 metre pool in the premium wing. Kids club for older children- my kids didn’t use the kids club as much as they would have liked to as it was more suitable for children under 6. My 11 year old did the tie dye activity twice ($15 aud additional cost) and loved it. The team members at the kids club were very kind. It would have been good to see some more activities and a space set up for tweens and teens with a gaming space like other resorts. We saw that the Melia resort had night time activities including a movie each night. Food and restaurant selections- we didn’t try the Ikan restaurant as the food menu didn’t suit our family, we ordered from the pool menu for lunch each day but would have liked some more basic sandwich options. The pizzas were big enough to share...
