Man, look around people!!
Maybe I just notice things having worked in the industry, but seriously, keep reading.
So, we got there 2 hours before closing and they had almost nothing that was on the menu. They didn't even have spring rolls or anything with cheese as they were out.
There was a juvenile rat running down the wall, in a heavily trafficked area (server station). My guess is that they were finding food from collected plates. In my pictures I couldn't catch any shots of the (multiple) rats as they were fast, but you can see signs of rats. Those stains up near all the ledges in the pics are not from leaks or anything, I'll leave it to you to figure out the correlation between rats and dingy stains. These rats were not even remotely fazed by the bustling movement of patrons and staff, which means they are very used to people and extremely comfortable in that environment. That means they likely have spent a lot of time there, probably many generations.
There were faeces on the floor in the WC.
They brought my daughter and wife drinks even when we said we were leaving, and charged us for them because the order was 'already in the system.' They were using high pressure tactics and threats.
We said whatever, we'll pay for the drinks and go.
Then they brought my drink, which was coke in a can, still unopened. So we said we weren't paying for that when it hasn't even been opened. The coffee and my wife's mixed drink is one thing, an unopened can of coke is something else. They said we have to pay for it because it's 'already in the system.' Then they put the bill for the drinks on the table.
We paid for the poured drinks, not for the unopened coke, and they hassled us about it until we left the building.
There is no way this place would remain open in North America, Europe or most of Asia. I have not seen that level of rat activity in a functioning restaurant before, even in slums in the 3rd world countries I've been to. Maybe they've cleaned it up, but considering the reviews are going back years I have...
Read moreA very cozy restaurant. It's located at the heart of central ubud. The area is quite big with the other side faces the river. The top floor is a non-smoking area and the lower level is for smokers. The high ceiling design makes the air circulates better and cools down the hot temperature of ubud a little. The Balinese food in general is ok. It wasn't as tasty as I expected. The Balinese pork dish was quite disappointing. The pork was hard to chew. The side dishes were excellent. Taste-wise, it was not as great as several other restaurants considering the aroma and the depth of the herbs effect on the pork itself. While, this menu should be competitive with other restaurants in my opinion. On the other hand, the western dish was excellent. No complains about it. However, the dessert was quite disappointing. The pastry was not crunchy, rather a bit soggy, most possibly because of the chiller inner temperature and quite high humidity. Overall, there are good things that the restaurant presents already, and several bad points that should be improved. In summary, the restaurant management needs to increase the quality control of the dessert and Balinese main course dishes. This restaurant used to be really good on its food. Consistency is the...
Read moreJust love Casa Luna. Have been here many times over the years, the first time being in 1998 when Ubud was a very different place to what it is now. I always enjoy my food and want to keep coming back for more. Many options on the menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lovely local flavour: Janet dee Neefe has done a wonderful job of presenting local Balinese food in a menu fused with some more western options. The Nasi Campur and Balinese Fish Curry are so delicious ! It's comfortable, the staff are friendly and efficient. They have an amazing bakery, making cakes, pastries and even sourdough bread. The coffee is excellent (coming from an Australian !) Sundays they have a Jazz evening with 2 for 1 cocktails if you are partial ;) Casa Luna are also founded and are involved in many projects preserving the Balinese culture including the Ubud Reader and Writers Festival and recently the Ubud Food Festival where I attended a wonderful breakfast tour of Ubud, sampling local delicacies, hosted by some wonderful Balinese locals. There is also cooking classes, and accommodation at Honeymoon Guesthouse (where I have stayed before). Highly recommend at least one visit on your...
