666 would be a more appropriate name for this place these days. Unbelievably poor general attitude towards their customers. Went there for drinks at 21.30. We were ignored at the door for over 5 minutes, so we sat ourselves down when 2 seats became available at the bar right beside us. When the barman eventually came over, his only concern was that we hadn’t be seated by the hostess so he sent her over to us.
She informed us that we had to have a main course each in order to be seated, until the kitchen closed at 22.30. So she brought the menus. 15 minutes later she finally returned, when I asked whether it would be possible to just order desserts instead of a main (we had been served a margarita in the interim). I was appalled by her response, verbatim: “no absolutely not, you were told at the door you would only be seated on the basis of having a main course and they are the rules”. I pointed out that we had actually had to seat ourselves because no one had bothered coming over to us, to which she had another rude response. At this point I asked for the bill to get out of there which was unceremoniously dumped in front of me and I paid.
I got chatting to one of the barmen (the only friendly one in the place) who was very embarrassed and apologetic about the treatment we’d received. He was quite happy to serve us another drink so we ordered one more (not going to lie, I wanted to antagonise the women that had been so rude to us. Plus the drinks are, sadly, excellent). One of the women pulled the barman aside and instructed him to give us the bill and not serve us any more. At this stage the kitchen was closed and there were plenty of empty tables and seats. So we paid and left.
I understand policies have to be put in place to avoid people taking advantage. I do not understand the arrogance, attitude and rudeness that we were subjected to in applying/explaining that policy, nor the blinkered application of it where they actually lost out on money we wanted to give them. Assuming the policy is overall down to their bottom line (very understandable) it also makes no sense that they would be happy for us to order one main each (€20-25) and take up seats, instead of 3-4 margaritas (€14 each) and dessert (~€6-9). €40 v €100+. There was no one waiting to be seated from the moment we sat down.
I will never go back to this place, good margaritas or not. A disgrace to the...
Read moreA Mexican restaurant, it was Taco Tuesday, 2 portions of taco for 9 euros. Sounds fair enough, but the moment you receive the food, service was super fast, like really fast. Within 5 minutes, which is amazing, but the food was cold, and not delicious at all. And once we mentioned it, the waiters just waived it off by saying it was the guacamole that causes it to cool down. But then again, the chicken was cold inside as well. Too bad they didn't want to listen, amongst each other we said we didn't want to pay for poor quality food, we in the end we didn't want to be a party pooper. Maybe we should have...
Next to the tacos we had a steak, and pulled pork dish. They told us it would take at least 30 minutes to prepare those dishes, and those dishes did take over 30 minutes to be served. The tacos were long gone, and once our dishes were served, the others were just siting there, waiting for us to be done. A bit strange, maybe a good advice would be: take more time to prepare the taco better, and serve all dishes at the same time.
The location was in the middle of the city centre, very good location. The atmosphere in the restaurant was more like a bar, the music was very loud, you could hardly hear yourself talking, that's a pity. The restaurant itself was dressed up really nice, it looked really cool!
And the moment our steak was served, one of the waiters dropped the sauce on our trousers. We had to take off our trousers in order to wash it. That is a great thing though, it had to take about 30 minutes to wash and dry. It was rather awkward sitting in the restaurant without trousers on though, then again, wearing pants with a huge stain in it wouldn't have been a better choice.
Since the tacos disappointed us already, we didn't want to have desserts, so we just went to the local McDonald's to satisfy our sweet tooth in the end 😂
Would I recommend this place? For the steak and pulled pork, yes! For anything Mexican like tacos? No, do yourself a favour and go for actual tacos somewhere else.
As for price and quality comparison, I find it rather expensive, but then again, it is in the middle of Dublin, so location-wise, I would...
Read moreDiscrimination Experience:
I went out for dinner last Wednesday evening with a group of friends (5 in total). Our server was very friendly and showed us to our seats. We were placed directly underneath the speaker and the music played was at a volume that, at one point one of my friends felt the glass vibrating. None of us could hear each other. I have a hidden disability (partially deaf), and while I have hearing aids, and have the technology set to provide support in loud spaces, in some instances (such as this) it can be difficult for me to hear.
One of my friends asked our server if the music could be turned down a fraction so I could be able to hear better. The server wasn’t sure and went to get the manager or main host for the evening. The host came over to my table and I explained my situation and asked if the music could be turned down a fraction to accommodate me, or, if we could be moved to another table. I was deeply hurt and angry with his response which was, that 777 could not accommodate this, that the music had to be at that volume because that was the vibe of the restaurant, and that there was no space for us to move. I told him I understood this, and I wasn’t asking for the music to be turned off, just turned down a fraction, to which he apologised with a smile, said no, and walked away.
I’m shocked by this treatment and incredibly disappointed. It saddens me that this establishment, which I thought was one that promoted a friendly and inclusive environment, clearly is not the case.
I emailed the restaurant and sent a direct message (DM) to them on Instragram the next day, sharing this experience and giving them the opportunity to respond to my email or message. I stated that I was not looking for any vouchers or anything, more to highlight this experience and hope that they change their practices and accommodate people with disabilities.
I have not heard from them since. Shocking! Would not recommend if they are not an establishment that strives to be one that promotes an inclusive...
