This is a great restaurant to grab a bite to eat when in town. It offers reasonably priced noodles, ramen, and sushi dishes (amongst others) in a nice authentic city centre environment. When I lived in Dublin, this restaurant used to be a regular haunt of mine. The food is of a high quality and doesn't take long to arrive. I hadn't been back in quite some time - it was actually sometime during the Covid pandemic when I was last here. The behaviour of some of the staff back then towards me and my children left me wondering if I'd ever return. Anyway, I did, and not a lot has changed in the layout over the years... and that's a good thing! The decor is as it should be, and the lighting is also as it should be, subtle and appropriate. We ordered a smoked salmon starter , which was a little underwhelming. We should've gone for the sushi platter. We realised this when our neighbouring table had their sushi platter brought out at the same time as ours! We moved on to the main course, and both ordered the Yamamori Yaki Soba. It's deceptively filling and awfully delicious. A big thumbs up there to the chef. The staff were nice but very poor as regards checking once or twice if we needed anything else, was everything ok, etc. One gets the feeling, once one has ordered, nobody wants any more to do with you. After we ordered, we never saw our waitress again, and, if they'd asked, "Would you like to see a dessert menu", I'd have said "yes". I still give this restaurant a hearty thumbs up and advise people to check it out for lunch or dinner. I liked the fact that their were so many different types of customer hailing from all parts of the world, and kids were...
Read moreAte here Yesterday with my wife, Open kitchen concept Dine in, not overly impressive, Tried the Yamamori Ramen Tonbara Niku, and Tatsuta Age each with fundamental issues but can be resolved with appropriate feedback. Ramen broth tasted watered down missing depth, Pre-prepped prawns soggy, tofu could use seasoning prior to frying, also could use a cleaner fryer as tofu will pick up any flavor the oil has picked up, noodles ok could be a better texture. Portion Large not necessarily a bad thing. Tonbara Niku was tasty, good sauce, tender, pan it came in was over heated which is a shame as even with stirring it as soon as it came to the table it still had a tendency to burn due to the fat and the sauce. Despite the burnt sides still tasty. Tatsuta Age Ginger fried chicken, Not what I was expecting, Fried very lightly and a bit powdery but still fully cooked inside could not taste ginger at all, Says teriyaki sauce but it tastes like something store bought very salty, stir fried vegetables, frying pan/wok not hot enough so no char, semi raw broccoli florets, Black rice had good texture, could use a drop of Aji-mirin to help the flavor, but I can understand avoiding it for the msg. Sake selection was decent, Draft Asahi which is nice and pretty standard for places not selling Sapporo, I do wish they had a better selection of Japanese beer though, Asahi also does a great Dark beer or even bringing in something bottled like Hoppy which is also available in light and dark. This restaurant serves a mix of Japanese inspired dishes but mostly what I tried was cross Asian fusion. It was good enough for the moment so I paid and left quietly but I don't think...
Read moreThere are 3 distinct locations VERY close to each other in Dublin, and apparently, each of them have their own style of food.
I visited the South City location listed on this business page (71/72 South George).
I showed up on a Saturday night at 8:15 and the place was packed with no seating available. I had to make reservations for 9pm and come back later - not their fault, but lesson learned. This part of the city is hopping on the weekends.
The Tiger Prawn Curry was a disappointment. It had a good flavor, but for €22.95, it was severely lacking a decent quantity of prawns and mushrooms. There were literally four small sized prawns and only three mushrooms (yes, I counted). It was WAY overpriced for what we got.
Miso soup was added to this entree and was €3.45 - I don't understand how they can charge that much for a standard miso soup. There was absolutely nothing special about it. It should have been priced closer to €1.00
I ordered the Tofu Steak, consisting of marinated crispy fried tofu with mango and roasted sesame seed sauce. It included stir-fried veggies, zakkoku rice, and vegetarian miso soup for €19.45.
There was plenty of tofu and it was cooked crispy as advertised - very good! The mango sauce it was bathed in tasted good as well. I asked for hot chili sauce on the side to spice it up a bit. The broccoli included in my entree was cold, and so was the side of rice.
The restaurant was very crowded and very loud between 9pm and 10:30pm.
I passed by this place several times on my visit, before going in, and I think I should have kept passing by. The food wasn't anything to brag about, and the price point certainly...
