Last night I came here with my son and sister. We've always loved Beshoffs in Howth. So before we went to a gig we decided we would like some delicious battered cod and chips. We ordered our food and we went upstairs to wait for it to arrive. First thing we noticed was the sticky floors and everything was grubby looking and the table was sticky. We were somehow able to overlook this until we sat on the extremely sticky seats. It felt greasy and sticky at the same time and made our skin crawl. Anyway finally our food arrived and we tucked in. The cod didn't taste anything like the cod in Howth. The batter was awful it was uncooked inside. Chips were good. We ate what we could and before we left the premises my sister and I visited the restroom. This was absolutely revolting. Apart from the sticky floors and filthy walls the toilets were appallingly dirty. One of the worst I've seen. We couldn't use the bathroom the facilities were just revolting. We were totally repulsed and will not go back.

Went here 3 times. The first time, I got the cod, which was fine. The second time, I wasn't hungry but went with my mother who was, and I just got a cappuccino, which was okay. They forgot about my mother's meal and we were waiting ages, had to call a waiter over. Also a middle aged man squeezed himself into our booth even though there were plenty of empty tables and I could see his fingers creeping towards my mother's handbag! Not the restaurant's fault, but it was still crazy. Luckily she moved her bag and he went away. The third time, the sole was extremely greasy. So much so that I had to force myself to eat it and ended up puking it up a couple of hours later. Sole is a thin fish, so I suspect they just put in the same fryer they use for chunkier fish and it comes out greasy because it's been cooked in way too much oil. I like the stained glass windows, but overall it's a little shabby. Could do with a deep clean.

Ordered the traditional fish and chips (with cod) and thought the cod was great. It’ll come down to personal preference for the chips as they’re not a more typical style. The loss of the star wasn’t for the chips, though—it was because the place was in serious need of a cleaning. To the employees’ credit, it was busy and raining so we may have just gotten there at a difficult time. It’s definitely not a reason to avoid it. The employees were also very kind and we didn’t wait very long for the food. The menu’s limited size is another area where it’s either a plus or minus for each individual. Nothing added or deducted for that either. Worth a visit for some good (almost great) fish and ships and a great atmosphere.

Horrific experience dining here. It was my second time eating here, the first had been okay but not great. I ordered curry chips and a battered sausage on my way home from work and the woman at the desk seemed confused and inexperienced. I managed to order in the end and took a seat inside. After waiting a good bit, a tiny tray of maybe 10 or 15 chips arrived with splattered curry on it. Thd price was 6 euro for this. It didn't look appealing but I was fairly hungry at this point and began to eat. I stopped before finishing realising I still hadn't been brought the battered sausage I paid for. I had to ask and then after about 20 minutes waiting, at which time I had finished the terrible chips, I was brought what looked like a battered sausage split in half. I went to eat it finally and just as I did the server came back to the table and said she had to take it back as this was technically two battered sausages! I was already beginning to eat after it had arrived at the table and I said could I simply eat them both since they made the mistake and I had been waiting ages for this tiny sausage. She said okay and I continued to eat and then came back a third time saying she had to take the food back with the manager of the place starring at me angrily from afar. I was shocked. I put the food down and demanded a refund for the sausage since I wasn't going to eat any of it and they happily took it back to the chef area to be thrown in the bin. No apology, just horrible treatment for me asking to eat what I had been given.. I walked out in disgust and, though I go by this place every day on my way home from work, I will never step foot in this place again. I'm fairly sure its not legal to serve someone food and take it away then after they begin eating it. Horrible place, would definitely not...

Absolutely the most obnoxious customer service I have ever had in Dublin. We stood in a line only to be told that it was take out only after having been told by the employee inside the door to order at the counter and he would take it to our table. After standing in line for 20 minutes we had to leave where were we supposed to eat fish and chips on the sidewalk? The next day we went into the restaurant and asked what time there were open until with table service as we would not want take out. We were told they closed at 9 and last orders 830. We asked again to confirm we could sit down at a table they said yes. We went back at 8 there was no line. When we went to order we were told take out only. We were shocked and appalled that we had been given wrong information again.

The rude obnoxious man behind the counter was so sarcastic and says you were not told we were open until 830 for Eat in on the phone. I explained that I had not called but had come in personally when I was passing earlier. He turned to his colleague and smirked and Smirked even more as we walked out. How can you possibly run an establishment when the staff do not know what is going on and they treat customers with such disdain. Just because they are on O’Connell street and have a captive audience of tourists does not mean they can make it up as they go along. They must have terrible management when they cannot communicate with the staff about what is going on and mess potential customers around like this. Stay away they do not deserve...

Very disappointed in my dinner of chicken and chips at the Upper O'Connell St location. Fully understanding that the chicken breast is deep fried the meal that was served to me was barely eatable. It was fried so long, or refried to heat, that the meat was totally dried out....through and through. Because of some time constraints and that it was almost closing time [9pm] I forced myself to eat it on a fork with the OK chips [ some not fully cooked] to camouflage the dryness. Before leaving I did bring my tray of food up to the counter and spoke with the cook so he could see the half eaten chicken and made him aware that i wanted him to discreetly to hear my opinion so there was no surprise in a review. Although I was looking for any refund, because I did eat half of it and most of the chips, there was no offer to try and make any remedy. He pointed out the obvious, that is was deep fried, and stated that the resulting overcooked meat was the way it was supposed to be and that all chicken breasts are served like that. If he had even admitted that because it was near closing time that in order to serve my request he had in fact reheated it I would have been willing to accept that explanation. That being said, if that is how he prepares this meal every day I hesitate to think what he does with the...
