Located on Dublin's O'Connell Street Madigans is right in the heart of the city, easily accessible by several bus routes, luas and by foot. The bar itself is your classic Irish bar with a homely setting and regular live music, where you can find all the classics like Guinness and 5 lamps on tap, along side home grown IPAs , they also have a selection of zero alcohol beverages. The staff are friendly and welcoming , not to mention quite charming. I've only ever visited after 6pm, when it's quiet enough that you can have a conversation but not so much that you'd be suspicious. The menu has recently been reviewed, and now boasts some hearty classics like chicken tenders and chips or a good ole Guinness stew, as well as some more adventurous dishes like salmon riletes . The chicken wings are a good solid mainstay, exactly as promised they are flavourful and tender. My personal favourite is the chicken tenders with gravy, personally I think gravy can make or break a dinner, and let me tell you I'd order their gravy by the bucket. On my last visit I tried the new salmon riletes, which were very tasty, although I'd perhaps be inclined to serve it with a caper or dill based mayo just to really pull it together. The vegetarian option is falafel with salad or quinoa- which is not specifically listed on the menu, but the staff are happy to advise you. The falafel are both crisp and fluffy. As always you can't go wrong with fries, I personally prefer the chunky fries as they are crisp, light and perfectly done , whereas I find skinny fries a little underwhelming. I am excited to try the new menu, and would absolutely recommend this as a place to go for a good sturdy filling meal. I also feel you get great meal value, especially considering it's...
Read moreI walked in with my elderly mother she needed to use the ladies room, I asked to look at the Irish whiskey list. No disabled toilet I was told ladies room down a flight of stairs. my mother left the premises. I chose a whisky from the price list €5 said make it large €10 barman looked around for a while to find the whiskey I had chosen. I have knowledge of the bar trade, I noticed right away that the whiskey I had chosen was not on the bar gantry, rather than say It wasn't available he poured me a large Bushmills then served it up to me he did not know I seen him do this, rather than make a scene as there where many customers dining I accepted the far less priced whisky drunk it then on leaving the bar said to another member of staff, thanks but please tell your colleague that he may have thought he was dealing with a foolish Scottish tourist looking for a drink, but he was very wrong. I felt cheated but I made sure it would not ruin my stay in the wonderful city of Dublin. So when you go to visit these premises beware if that is what they can do inform of you i would avoid it. Not good business and certainly no way to treat a Scotsman after all we do know a little about whisky HA HA.. 0 - of 10 I...
Read moreWe’ve been back 3 times in 2 days because of the fresh, delicious food and excellent, friendly service.
I want to point out Jordan and Connor as two very excellent hosts. They took great care of us.
We tried the duck spring rolls and seafood chowder and they were absolutely delicious and fresh. Jordan was our bartender and server, and he was so great, and he provided us with some guidance for finding good whiskeys (that weren’t served there). We would happily return….
And return we did! Just a few hours later we wanted another go at the fresh and delicious food here.
We had the bangers and mash and the lamb stew, and hands down the best we’ve had so far. And as a fan of Redbreast, I enjoyed the Lustau version. Just amazingly tasty all around, and great, lively, and lovely service here.
We also had the fish and chips, and it was amazing and what we were hoping to get.
Excellent restaurant, folks. Stop in and...
