As Ireland reopens from the lockdown, I booked a table for 2, approximately 10 days before any bars and restaurants were allowed to open. I paid 25€ to book a little table for 2 for dining (it will be refunded either from a direct deduction on the bill or refund via PayPal).
When we arrived at the restaurant, we were asked to sit at the bar, but we refused because we booked way ahead of time to have a table as we planned to have dinner there, so eventually we were given a table (the place was still rather empty). So that was a bit of an episode to start with.
We then ordered dinner, I ordered a medium rare steak, but it came well done. Fine, it's a bar, not a steak house, so I tried to enjoy it. That said, the waiting service was pretty good, quite attentive throughout.
In the end we asked for our bill, and paid 100€ for 2 (we have a few beers each and a main dish), but on the bill we didn't get the refund back on the spot, asked for it, but the restaurant opted for PayPal, I was alright with it as I trust the restaurant to refund it back soon.
As soon as I've paid the 100€ bill, literally in a few seconds later as we were putting on our jackets, getting ready to head home, one of the staff came to us and said "you have been staying at this table for a long time and we need the table back so would be great if you can vacate it asap".... For me this is a hard NO-GO. You don't chase your paying customers out immediately after they just paid (or in general, don't chase them out!). It is not like we only had a beer and stayed for hours, we spent quite a bit for a table of 2!
We thought we had a good time in there, up until the last second, and we left the place with a bitter taste and it really didn't feel good at all. Unfortunately, we don't think we will ever return. It's a shame as we live nearby in the neighborhood. Very disappointed. Especially this was the first time we were back in a bar/restaurant after a...
Read moreAfter working in the service industry for a number of years I found the management to be one of the rudest I had ever come across. I was on a date on a Thursday afternoon and we stopped in for a drink. There were a bunch of 5/6 Germans having drinks and were singing quietly -this did not interrupt our date(nothing like the Irish would). The manager went over to them and gave them a proper telling off saying they would have to get out to the street for that type of behaviour, this is what interrupted my date. I was shocked at the manager for this as these Germans were not interrupting anyone in the bar. When I called over the manager to just make the point that there was no need to be so rude and unfriendly to paying customers, he then started to shout at me. II did not shout at him, when I said that there was no sign to say there was be no singing in the pub(as he informed me this was their policy) he got very thick and said ' I don't need a sign to say don't piss over there so I don't need a sign to say don't sing'. I found this to be rude, vulgar and very unprofessionally. On top of that I corrected him that urinating in public is a public offence that you can be arrested for whereas singing is not. He continued to shout as appose speak to me. I was shocked at the way they treat customers. I was merely trying to make a point that he was not very nice or professional to paying customers and got my head eat off. I would not recommend this...
