Read moreMy first visit to this iconic venue was almost 30 years ago, so my second visit on 22/6/24 held many surprises.
This innovative chameleon venue has undergone an enormous make over and refurbishment about 6 years ago. The art deco / nouveau theme is still intact but a modern twist has been added with a ‘faux cafe street’ now sitting where the dance floor and balcony once were.
It still has its love story appeal, and has embraced her twentieth century makeover with grace.
For me it is one of my all time favourite venues, I salute its ability to gently transform from an elegant lunch time meet to an afternoon tea delight then into a cocktail destination by early evening and a bustling night time party place until the wee small hours.
We arrived as it opened at 11.30 hrs, every member of staff we encountered were professional and ensured our visit was not only a good experience but a memorable one too.
The service was approximately timed, we weren’t rushed and our 2 hour lunch felt relaxed and enjoyable.
My Vegan bowl comprised Quinoa & Edamame, Cabbage Slaw, Cajun Sweet Potato, Avocado, Curry Spiced Cauliflower, Ranch Dressing, Rocket, Toasted Seeds & I added Buttermilk Chicken, was an absolute delight to the taste buds.
We also enjoyed eggs Royale, the Eggs were poached to perfection and enhanced with Spinach, Hash Browns, Ballycotton Smoked Salmon, Hollandaise, Rocket Salad .
I liked the addition of water brought to our table without request although the faux Parisian street was something of a surprise. I didn’t figure on the make over!
However the retractable roof is a novel addition which allows the outside in, which was closed as the wind picked up.
It was wonderful to revisit Cafe Em Seine, although I didn’t appreciate at the time of booking my last visit was almost 30 years ago.
It was interesting to have a wander and explore the new decor on the various levels.
Thank you Cafe En Seine for a delicious birthday lunch and the next time I’m in Dublin, I will come and visit you again. Hopefully it won’t be 30 years before...
Read moreWe came here for dinner on Halloween. The service at first was extremely friendly — the starters and cocktails were great, and we were really enjoying ourselves.
However, things went downhill when the main courses arrived. We had one fish & chips (which was tasty) and two steaks: one ordered medium and the other medium rare. When the steaks arrived, both were clearly closer to medium well. For one of us that was fine, but since the other specifically asked for medium rare, we mentioned it to the waiter. He agreed that it was indeed more medium to medium well, and kindly took the steak back.
About five minutes later, the manager (ironically dressed as Cruella de Vil) came to our table. She insisted that the steak was medium rare, shining a flashlight from her phone onto the meat — while the rest of us were still eating. It was obviously not medium rare, and her defensive attitude made the situation very uncomfortable. When the other person pointed out that her steak looked the same, the manager again shone her flashlight right onto the plate, even though she was still eating. We found that incredibly rude and felt like we weren’t being taken seriously.
She was overly apologetic in tone about the flashlight, but not in a sincere or professional way. She also admitted that both steaks looked the same — even though we had ordered them cooked differently. Eventually, after some back and forth, we did get a new steak that was cooked properly. The manager dropped it off at the table without saying a single word — not even a “sorry for the inconvenience” or “enjoy your meal.” Very poor attitude.
When it came time to pay, our waiter apologized again and said he would adjust something on the bill, but nothing was changed in the end. That wasn’t a big issue (because it was not what we were after at all), but it would have been better if he hadn’t said that at all.
Overall, we left feeling uncomfortable and disappointed — such a shame, because the evening started...
