Shocking experience. Me and my wife (she dosent drink) were showing my wife's sister and husband (Paul) around Dublin. We decided to pop into this pub for a drink. There was very few people in here at the time. I ordered a pint of Guinness for me and Paul, my wife's sister was heavily pregnant so didn't want a drink. The barman said so off the cuff remark that the girls would have to order too. Nothing else was said and he took my money and we sat down to have a drink. We had probably taken a mouthful each from our drinks when he came from behind the bar to tell us that the girls had to order a drink or we should leave. At the time this designated driver scheme was in Ireland to promote safe drinking around Christmas time. So technically my wife could have ordered a free soft drink. But we really were shocked by the manner of the elderly barman. No doubt typically used to tourists who read about this shambles of a place in some tourist book and likely to never return, so who needs customer service. We left immediately. My only regret was that I didn't empty the pint over his head. It was a lovely welcome to Ireland for my wife's sister and her husband. Avoid at all costs and go to a decent pub like keoghs...

It has a very small entrance with a stairs that leads down to the dimly lit basement pub. The staff said that when full to capacity it can hold about 50 to 60 people, at maximum squash! The bar was busy for that time of the day, but it was surprisingly easy to find a seat and some leg room, maybe we Irish are tiny bastards?
Had a Smithwicks, which was fine, and enjoyed the bar room atmosphere which was lovely and cosy. I definitely will try and return for a cold wintry day as I can imagine how warm it would be snuggled up sipping a nice hot whisky as it snows outside. The novelty factor is very enticing, definitely a bar I would love to show to a foreign friend visiting Dublin for a few days, as it’s a fun bar to check out.
The only problem I had with the bar was its so small that you can overhear what others are saying. No problem for me that talks absolute nonsense, but unfortunately I had to hear the conversation going on beside me which was all about Shopping and “My course in Trinity”. A little off putting, but that’s the luck of the...
Read moreCool little tiny bar. Shame about the bartender. My sister recommended the bar but shame it was a major let down because of your bartender who was the rudest iv ever met. While he was still on his phone call, he asked what I wanted, they didn't have it (West Coast cooler) no problem but his attitude was laughable at the rudeness, felt the need to call me a "hun" because of it. You should be allowed to order what you want and not have some lazy barman who sat on his backside the whole time giving out to his friend. Ordered a different drink which we had to sit and endure him loudly chatting to his friend drinking her coffee, chatting bad about the staff and place. Not very professional and safe to say we finished our drinks and went to other bars in the area and would advise from one bartender to another if you want to keep customers in a tough business which is a extremely quiet Monday in January I recommend putting on your nicer friendlier staff that all these other reviewers boast about not the one that all seem...
