🍝 Dolce Sicily: A Taste of Southern Italy in Dublin!

This used to be my go-to café last year, with friendly staff and divine pistachio tiramisu and cream puffs that kept me coming back weekly. But my recent visit was a complete letdown:🥲🥲🥲🥲 1️⃣ Rude & Unprofessional Service A bespectacled, bearded staff member was shockingly dismissive: Ignored my order requests in English (one of Ireland’s official language), replying only in Italian. Made zero effort to accommodate or even maintain basic eye contact. Felt targeted as an Asian customer – unacceptable in a service industry… 2️⃣ Subpar Food Quality The pistachio tiramisu (once a standout) was stale and poorly executed: Dry, hardened sponge layers (clearly old stock). Cloyingly sweet with none of the original balanced flavor. Price hikes are understandable, but declining quality at higher costs is unjustifiable. To the Management: Service staff should at minimum understand orders in the local language. If you can’t maintain recipe standards, remove items from the menu rather than tarnish your reputation. These two stars: ★ One for the wonderful memories of how good you used to be ★ One in hope that you'll rediscover your original magic。。。

I have mixed feelings about Dolce Sicily. The first time I visited, the experience was much better, but on my second visit it didn’t really transport me to Italy as I had hoped. The highlights here are definitely the desserts — the pistachio tiramisu and pastries in general are very good. However, I have serious doubts about the savory food. I ordered the ossobuco risotto: the meat itself was well-cooked, tender, and flavorful, but the risotto had no taste at all. After waiting 45 minutes for the dish, it was quite disappointing. I mentioned it to the waiter, who kindly took the plate back, but what came next was very bizarre: they brought me a new risotto and literally took half of the ossobuco from my first plate and served it separately on a smaller dish. For a restaurant that is not cheap, I found it unacceptable that the chef didn’t bother to remake the dish properly. Overall, I feel Dolce Sicily needs to improve a lot on consistency and service to win me back — and honestly, I don’t think I’ll be returning.

The pastries, cakes and desserts are the star of the show in this place and just as well, as the service is atrocious. Have frequented many times and the staff always seem too busy to acknowledge you but last weekend took the biscuit. After waiting at the counter to order without success we decided to go to the front door and wait to be seated only to be ignored for 5 mins before having a staff member walk between us to ask the couple behind if there wanted a table for two. Being Irish I didn't say anything, my bad. Decided to walk back to the counter to just have a takeaway but was met with more silence while the staff seemed engrossed in talking to one another while preparing dishes. I am away of people being busy but with 3 or 4 staff behind a small counter it seems astonishing that nobody can turn to ask us to be patient while they finish orders. It was our second time to the counter. To be honest I preferred the down to earth service when the cafe was located on Dawson St and there was no need to have CIA style headsets just to serve a cake. It wasn't the first time I went there for something sweet but left with a bitter...

Was with a group that went into the cafe. When going in our group was split up so there was a miscommunication about the number of seats needed. What I believe to be the manager stopped some of us going up the stairs in a rather aggressive manner asking us where we were going. To be honest in hospitality even if you’re right you never come to customers in this tone even if you could be right. Eventually this got resolved and we were seated. We spent around 10 minutes observing the menu at this point. Due to the nature of the group we were in, paying the bill as a collective would not be possible . As we went to order I double checked we could get a separate bill. We were told this would not be possible and we would have to pay together. I explained this was not possible and I was met with a counter offer of 2 different bills. We at this point decided to leave. To be honest I can’t believe places like this aren’t bothered to put in a couple extra digits into a card machine. We are their customers and they act as if we are lucky in a sense to be in there. Just a word of warning to...
