Nestled in the historic Mansion House on Dawson Street, FIRE Steakhouse & Bar is more than just a restaurant—it’s an event. Stepping into the main dining room, originally built in 1864 as the Lord Mayor’s ‘Supper Room,’ is instantly impressive. The space is absolutely enormous, featuring breathtaking vaulted ceilings, stained glass windows, and a grandeur that few Dublin venues can match. This is the definition of a spectacular setting, making it perfect for special occasions, corporate events, or a truly memorable night out. The Ambiance: A Historic 'Wow' Factor The physical setting alone justifies a visit. The recent, multi-million euro refurbishment ensures the historic space feels fresh, luxurious, and welcoming, rather than stuffy. Whether you are seated in the main hall or on the gorgeous, heated outdoor terrace overlooking the Lord Mayor’s Garden, the atmosphere is distinctly upscale and buzzing. It strikes a sophisticated balance, managing to feel both incredibly grand and yet comfortably casual. The Menu: Irish Produce, Expertly Prepared As expected from one of Dublin’s top steakhouses, the focus is squarely on high-quality, sustainable Irish produce, particularly their award-winning beef. For starters, we opted for the signature Wood-Fired Tiger Prawns with chorizo and crayfish stuffing, which were beautifully cooked and burst with flavour. The Ardsallagh Goats Cheese starter, served with pickled beets and candied pecans, also came highly recommended and proved to be a delightful balance of sweet, earthy, and creamy textures. The main event, of course, is the steak. We chose the Irish Hereford Prime Fillet (6oz) and the Rib-Eye (10oz). Both were aged and cooked to perfection, showcasing the quality of the beef with simple seasoning. The sides—creamed potato and the signature Pont Neuf chips—were excellent accompaniments, though it's worth noting all sides come à la carte, adding to the total cost. While the steak is the star, the menu is surprisingly extensive, offering delicious seafood options like Seared Irish Salmon and a robust range of vegetarian dishes, such as Spinach & Ricotta Tortellini, ensuring everyone is catered for. Service and Value The service at FIRE is professional, friendly, and attentive. Our server was knowledgeable about the provenance of the dishes and offered insightful wine pairings from their extensive list. This level of polished, yet warm, service elevates the entire dining experience. The one area for consideration is the price point. Dining at FIRE is certainly an indulgence. The à la carte pricing is premium, with steaks starting around €40-€50 and sides charged separately. However, they offer well-regarded set menus, including an Early Bird option (often around two courses for €42) and a Weekend Lunch menu, which provide a significantly better entry point to experience the atmosphere and food quality without the full à la carte spend. Verdict FIRE Steakhouse & Bar delivers a true luxury dining experience in Dublin. You pay for the incredible location, the impeccable service, and the highest quality Irish ingredients. While it won't be a casual weekly spot for most, it is the perfect destination for celebrating a milestone or hosting guests. If you're looking for one of the best steaks in Dublin served in the city’s most historical and impressive dining room, FIRE should be at the top...
Read moreJust had dinner for 6 last night at Fire Restaurant at Dawson street.
Expected: Cool venue with Fancy dinner experience.
Great location, spectacular venue, amazing design and atmosphere.
However, nothing else to mention.
Service: Terrible service with unprofessional waiting staff. Looks like they have never been trained in table service, food and beverage menu, selling techniques or appropriate language with guests.
We asked our waiter: "What would you recommend today or any Fire signature dish?" The answer we received: "Everything on the menu!" Staff do not have selling techniques and the right attitude. Lack of selling techniques leads to loss of additional revenue.
Second question my friend asked was: "What is the difference between these two fillet steaks?" The answer: "Your friend ordered this one you can do the same!" Lack of menu knowledge and limited English make it impossible to communicate with waiting staff.
They have no idea what table service is at all. Forks and knives placed in the incorrect position on the table, Plates were served and collected from different directions. Some of the plates were piled one on one in front of us before collecting. There is no attention to the quests. Nobody topped the Prosecco or other drinks. The bottle of Prosecco was left on a table instead of placed in an ice bucket. Clearing plates from the table in chaotic order: delay / or too early. 20 times we needed to raise a hand or say: "Hello or Sorry" to attract the attention of the waiting staff. First 3 Aperol Spritz never arrived at our table, we had to go down to the bar and buy there.
5 minutes explained to the waiter what it means Tullamore Dew on the Rocks. It is so basic that we could not believe it. Do they know what Guinness is with a drop of Blackcurrant? :) Tullamore Dew arrived in a cracked glass. Poured to previous glass for safety reason.
Food: Mickey Mouse size portions, poor presentation. Tiny Hannan Meat's Dry fillet steak arrived on a table and tasted like an old shoe. Even enhanced with shrimps does not fix it. Price €54,50. I believe I can get way better steak in F.X.Buckley restaurant.
The same story with scallops: 6 tiny scallops for €36... really?
12 skinny sweet potato fries per portion, where half of them were burned in a greasy oil. Creamed Potato and Baby Spinach are complete joke. Full of margarine, and there is no hint of cream :(
Beef Carpaccio, Lamb Skewers, and Wood Fired Tiger Prawns were good, but not fantastic.
Be aware: Cheap tasteless bread, desserts from the freezer.
Kitchen does not have quality control and operates in traditional Irish standard: It will do! They were not familiar with their menu, as two similar steaks arrived in different shapes and weight. Pure mess, mess, mess...
In summary: Spent around €1,200 for 6 people. Below average restaurant with a great location and design. Horrific service! Similar service I will get in any cafe near Mallow village on the way from Dublin to Cork or maybe better. Kids size portions for adults with poor presentation. Value for money is average. Will we be back?: Definitely not....
Read more2/5 only for the slightly above-average food quality, everything else is well below the average and not worth the price.
Let's start from the reservation. I booked our 20 ppl dinner well in advance and on the night of the event we were located in a huge and extremely noisy room with many other guests. Being a team dinner, the location made it impossible to have meaningful conversation, they should have 1) informed us or 2) located us on the terrace as their website says.
Once we all sat at the table, it took a good 15 minutes before we could order a drink. The room was full of staff members but they all seemed not interested in getting our orders. From the order, it took another good 10 minutes to get the drink.
Given the initial impression, we decided it was time to order and again, we had to ask one of the staff members if we could order. There was no proactive service of any sort.
The server that took the order did just that, no suggestions nor recommendations were made. They simply noted our orders on their tables and went away; I understand we were forced to a set menu with very limited options however, I would have expected a server from this location to interact with the customer and/or provide recommendations.
Starters were served in about 15 minutes. My starter - grilled tiger prawns with chorizo - was very appealing and presented nicely. The prawns had a rich, savory, and spicy taste; the chorizo and crayfish condiment was pleasant and buttery, as expected.
Mains came about 20 minutes later and they primarily were sirloin or rib-eye steaks. The plating was poor and did not follow any of the golden "plating rules" like locating the three basic food items (starch, vegetables, main) picturing the face of a clock, or placing the focal point of the disk on either the left or right side of the place, rather than the center. In essence, the main appeared very average and not in line with my expectations. While the meat was cooked as per my preference, no salt or rosemary, or any condiment was added to enrich the taste and flavor. The quality of the meat was notable despite the fact it had no particular taste or aroma; the crispy onions were not on the menu and they should have not been added without asking.
Desserts were served faster, I guess due to their "ready-to-serve" nature. This time plating was better and pretty much the only notable fact. The parfait had a very bland flavor and I could not taste any ginger. Nonetheless, while I was eating my parfait I felt a bad texture, and turned out to be a piece of paper that somehow made it part of the parfait. My attempt to let one of the staff member know failed after 5 minutes of no one noticing me asking for their attention.
In summary, my experience was very negative, and definitely would not recommend this location to friends or consider it for future events. The management should review how their staff deals with customers throughout the service and not just upon arrival. For what pertains to the foreign object in my food, I am speechless not only by the fact itself but also by the total lack of care shown...
