If you’re looking for an authentic dining experience in Florence, Il Vecchio e il Mare is a hidden gem that checks all the signs of a truly great restaurant. From the moment we stepped in, we noticed that everyone spoke Italian, and there was no English menu in sight—a sure sign of its local authenticity. Their wine list features local wines and Franciacorta, a testament to their commitment to quality. This spot offers not just food but an experience, with a knowledgeable staff proud of their cuisine and the local ingredients they use. The food and service were outstanding, with impeccable attention to detail—even going so far as to make us a salad that wasn’t on the menu. Every dish was a celebration of Italian flavors, crafted with passion and care. If you’re in Florence, don’t miss this place—it’s where you’ll find the soul of Italian cooking!

I red so much about this place, articles, fb video, the head pizzaiolo on videos teaching how to make the dough... I have finally found my way here, it was very very busy but thankfully we booked, service was good especially consider the amount the ppl they set and serviced. The dough was exceptional, fluffy, light and tasty, it was a little crunchy and perfectly cooked, even opening any of the crusts you could tell it was perfectly cooked, very impressive They waitress have been very accommodating and bring the food for our little man straight away. After the pizza we tried a napolitan babba, I am not a big fan as it is normally too heavy on the rum for my taste... this one I ate it all and very happily I would have ordered another one! Fantastic dinner experience, worth the walk from the duomo (about 15min)

Despite the slightly lower ratings on Google, we came here on the recommendation of our AirBnB host. It was our best dinner in Firenze. The food was good. The staff that served us was wonderful. The lighting and the atmosphere was great. They had a good collection of wines on the menu and were knowledgeable about them as well. The portion for the dessert was a bit too small and I would say that the pricing was maybe 10-20% more than what it should be. They do have a great location. Slightly secluded and away from the hustle bustle. Just the right kind for a lovely dinner.

Looks can be deceiving. The worst dining experience ever experienced in Florence. The pizza was okay but the sauce didn’t taste like it was homemade. They refused to bring water to my dog and were very unfriendly as if they were trying to act like they were too fancy for a group of younger adults. It was a bizarre experience that left me feeling uncomfortable. They also refused to give separate receipts when we split the bill. Although the food may indeed be something to rave about, the service and energy ruins the atmosphere and meal overall. I will not go back. With so many places to choose from, it would be best to take chances elsewhere where the people will at least treat you like they want you...
