La Fettunta in Florence is an outstanding destination for anyone looking to experience authentic Tuscan cuisine. Located in the heart of the city, this beloved restaurant has earned its reputation for serving some of the finest traditional dishes. With its warm, cozy atmosphere and incredibly friendly staff, La Fettunta is a must-visit for both locals and tourists alike. The restaurant is very popular, so it’s wise to book ahead. However, the staff do their best to accommodate walk-ins, and although we waited around 30 minutes for a table, the experience made it well worth the wait.
The prices at La Fettunta are refreshingly reasonable, especially considering the quality and authenticity of the food. Compared to other Florence restaurants offering similar fare, it stands out for offering exceptional value.
We decided to try the famous Bistecca alla Fiorentina, the pride of Florentine cuisine. This traditional dish has roots dating back to the Renaissance, when the Medici family celebrated grand feasts featuring the finest local beef. Today, the Florentine steak continues to be a symbol of Tuscany’s rich culinary heritage, and La Fettunta’s rendition is superb. We were served an impressive 1.3-kilo portion of beef, carved off the bone and cooked to perfection. The meat was incredibly tender, succulent, and full of flavor—just as it should be.
Alongside the steak, we ordered stewed artichokes in white wine and roasted potatoes. The artichokes were beautifully tender with a subtle richness from the wine, and the roasted potatoes were crispy and well-seasoned, complementing the main course perfectly.
La Fettunta provides an unforgettable dining experience, blending tradition, flavor, and a welcoming atmosphere. If you're in Florence and looking for an authentic taste of the city’s culinary heritage, this restaurant should be high...
Read moreMy husband and I loved the food! We ate here the following night as well.
We arrived here, along with 20 other people, before they opened at 6:30 pm on a Thursday night, May 15. They seated everyone who was waiting. I assume no one had reservations because the servers didn't ask anyone about that.
I ordered the Peposo alla Fornicina (a spicy beef stew), my husband ordered the Lasagna and a beer, and my adult daughter ordered the Eggplant Parmigiana. We also ordered sides of roast potatoes and roast vegetables. We tried to order the spinach but they had run out, so we got artichokes instead. Yes, it was too much food but it was good!
The beef stew was delicious, the spiciness came primarily from black pepper. Unfortunately, the sauce was loaded with whole peppercorns, so many that I would get at least 2 peppercorns with every bite of sauce. My husband liked the lasagna so much that he ordered it again the next night. My daughter enjoyed her Eggplant Parmigiana.
The next night, after arriving again before the restaurant opened, I ordered the Pici with meat and mushroom sauce. Pici is like really thick spaghetti so it was very filling. I enjoyed the flavors of the sauce. My daughter got the Gnocchi alla Sorrentina. My daughter primarily eats pasta and avoids red meat. She said her two dishes were too much alike in terms of the sauces that were used.
The servers were friendly and didn't mind explaining what the dishes were. We were able to order quickly and our food also arrived after a reasonable time. You pay at...
Read moreI was looking forward to going to this place, cause it had good reviews and score, but I got disappointed... We got 6 dishes, most of them were average one was really good and one was bad. The porchetta was the best of them, it seems there were fennel seeds in it so it gave the whole dish a unique flavour! The stew the pasta ragu and the lasagna were nothing special... The worst was a dish that cost us 9€ and it was basically a skewer with 6 pieces of meat. 2 of them were good sausages, 2 were pieces of overcooked pork and the last 2 where frankfurters.... Seriously? In a country where is supposed to have good cuisine, in a place that has high ratings in a dish that costs 9€ you put frankfurters???? R u kidding me? Apart from the food the other annoying thing was the staff... Not even a try to speak English... Of course none is obligated to know Italian... It took us a good minute or two each time to communicate and when we didn't understand they kept repeating their answers in Italian like we would magically learn the language and understand... On top of all that, the place had no phone reception and no wifi... So 2/5 instead of 1/5 just because the porchetta was unique and the environment was lovely... Disappointment..
Edit: (Reply to owner's response) I'm sorry to say that though your words sound nice, my experience there was the exact opposite of what you said. So there is no way I would waste more money there. Thanks,...
