This is an awful place!! If you want to be treated with respect, have good service, and good decent food then DON'T COME HERE!!! My friend and I sat down after visiting the cathedral and we were treated with utter contempt by the waiters and the staff....We sat down after being shown to out table by a miserable abrupt waiter who told us to move our luggage and bags over the other side as it was getting in the way....Then an older waiter who looked like he should have retired 5 years ago came over and we were given the menus....We looked through them and were shocked to see that the price of a diet coke was €6 euros....We should have left there and then....but we were both really hungry and tired after a lot of walking and sightseeing so we decided to stay...big mistake!!! When the old waiter came over to take our order we told him what we wanted two lasagne and salad, we also asked for tap water....and he said that they did not serve tap water!! They obviously wanted us to buy their expensively priced drinks!! So we just stuck to the food....another big mistake....He gave the people next to us a bag of bread rolls...the old boy didn't give us any bread rolls so I had to ask him to give us some. After he dumped the bag of rolls with nothing else....no butter or olive oil to dip them with. I again had to ask him for some....After waiting for ages I went in to ask another staff member for some butter which I eventually got....They then served us the lasagne which looked like a small portion of slop....which was obviously microwaved as the sides were all burnt and inedible!! The portion was measly and it tasted like it was a ready made meal not proper Italian food!! After eating this disappointing meal....We asked for the bill which we had to pay indoors...the woman charged us for the meal plus 2 x €3 euros for cover charge!! I was appalled!!! I understand that they do charge cover charge....but to charge us twice was daylight robbery!!! When I asked her why she charged this she said it is because there was two of us even though the bill came to €34 including this charge so that was more than 10% for appalling service and the privilege to sit there and be served by them!! They clearly have no respect for tourists....They serve appalling food at extortionate prices!! We were just paying for the location.....If you want good authentic Italian food and a real Italian experience STAY AWAY!! Do your research and go to places away from the tourist traps!!! We left disappointed and annoyed but we did not allow this to spoil our trip to this...
Read moreSitting down at this restaurant it seemed my wife and I made a good decision to eat dinner here. Friendly staff, comfortable seating, well decorated and not that crowded made us feel we totally lucked out on our find. As the evening went on and in hindsight I think we could have done much better for food, certainly better on experience. The "friendly" staff hardly gave us a moment alone to look at the menu and kept engaging us in conversation which seemed intrusive after awhile. I had picked a medium priced bottle of red wine but the "friendly" waiter suggested a bottle almost twice the price. Being our last night in Italy I said okay. The wine was mediocre at best, not worth the 60 Euros we paid. I ordered the osso bucco which was about the most expensive item on the menu. The server suggested a saffron risotto instead of mashed potatoes which cost 4 Euro more. Seemed like a good idea at the time but the risotto was not a good match for the beef and tomatoes. Too subtle, salty, and a bright yellow color which seemed artificial were turn offs. The beef was a good portion and tasted great. My wife's manicotti looked like it was going to be good although beneath the cheesy topping were pasta filled with a dry-ish filling that was crumbly in texture with little flavor. The meal seemed to be okay and the hovering server was a distraction but my greatest criticism was when getting the bill we weren't presented with an itemized bill just a numbered slip of paper to take to the register. Seemed odd but took the paper to the cashier who rang up our meal without sharing or confirming what it was we had eaten. After paying I did get a receipt but again nothing itemized. No idea of the charges for service, food, or wine. My wife thought everything was fine but the hovering waiter, upselling of menu items, poor pairings of expensive, salty food, and the missing itemized receipt made me come to realize the restaurant and staff were more interested in making money not service or great food. Warning to fellow travelers...
Read moreWe visited Italy recently for the Denver design week, the city was packed with tons of people from everywhere, during our stay in Italy we did the tour at the Duomo Cathedral which was great after the tour we were super hungry and headed out to eat, we stopped at the Granaio restaurant because they have available open seats outside, the first thing I did after the waiter handed the menu to me, was explaining my food allergies (gluten, shellfish and goat cheese) but suddenly we had another waiter that took over and my husband and I explained the new guy the same thing ( my food allergies) we ordered a Caprese salad that came without cheese because that there is not more cheese available. We also ordered a risotto that was supposed to have saffron taste but instead tasted like American mac and cheese that came out of a box. My fish had a breading coat on it and I asked the waiter if the coating had gluten, he assured me no! That the fish was gluten free, Someone else came to remove the plate from me after I had several bites, saying that the fish has gluten on it. I was frustrated with the lack of communication, I started having an allergy reaction, my husband's food looked and probably tasted like chef boyardee because he didn't like it. Honestly! A complete disappointment! I spoke to the manager of the place and complained about the lack of communication they have between their waiters, menu descriptions and the kitchen. I have been in Italy many times and I had never experienced such a thing. My frustrations were beyond frustrations because I left...
