I found this place on the Happy Cow app. It's about a 20-25 minute walk from the Vatican. I came here for dinner after finishing my trip to the Vatican Museum. It was easy to find with Google maps. I was the only one there at 6:15 pm on a Friday mid December. This seems to be a good time to visit Rome because it's not as crowded as summer in general. I was a little nervous eating at a place with "raw vegan" as the big draw because I wasn't sure how good the food would be. But it ended up being a lot better than I expected. I ordered lentil soup and the portion was huge. It was very savory and satisfying. It gave me the warm feelings of a loving home. I also had a glass of orange juice. I like the way fresh squeezed juice tastes and I really enjoy pulp so it was perfect. It isn't overly sweet and it has the perfect tanginess. I also got a Golden Milk latte and that tasted as expected. It isn't sweet at all. It has a strong turmeric flavor. I also got vegetable sushi. That was a generous portion as well, but if I had that alone I would still be hungry. The rolls were really pleasant. They were like eating a bite sized fresh salad. The wasabi wasn't spicy at all and I wish it was a little bit. I also would have liked a little more wasabi to spread between the roll pieces. There was avocado styled like sashimi and it had fresh olive oil and salt on top of it. It was really creamy with the perfect texture. I highly recommend checking this place out if you are vegan. The flavors were good, but be warned the prices were high (but everything is fresh so it's understandable). I would have liked to see more traditional Italian dishes on the menu like pizza or pasta only because that would be a really nice find while in Italy. I will definitely come here again next time I'm in Rome.
Pros: Big portions, Good flavors,...

We stopped at Ecrru for lunch on our way back from sightseeing, and it turned out to be a really nice discovery. It’s a small, cozy place that feels family-run, with a relaxed atmosphere. When we arrived around lunchtime, it was quiet and calm, which fit the vibe perfectly.
Our daughter had avocado sushi (fully vegan, no fish). It looked great and was well-prepared, though she found the taste a bit too mild. My partner and I went for “Qui-Fu” – Italian quinoa tabbouleh with cauliflower, chives, homemade teriyaki sauce, sliced otani, homemade tofu, and almond cream. Watching it freshly prepared in front of us was impressive. Taste-wise, everything was fresh, clean, and light – though for my personal preference, the flavors could have been a bit stronger. I think that’s simply part of the raw/vegan style of cuisine.
The coffee and fresh juice were excellent – you can really taste the difference in how freshly made it is. Staff were kind and not pushy, adding to the overall calm and easy-going atmosphere.
If you’re into vegan or vegetarian food, or simply curious to try something different, I’d strongly recommend this place. If you’re more into sizzling, bold, meaty flavors, it may feel a bit mellow for you – but definitely...
Read moreEcru is a raw vegan restaurant, which at first gave me pause because my last experience at a raw vegan restaurant wasn't great, but the food was really good and totally changed my mind about tofu. There was this dish with tofu and a creamy sauce but it was good quality tofu that tasted unlike any other tofu I'd ever tried and it was very flavorful and delicious.
There was also a raw burger made of grains and vegetables served with pickled red cabbage and sauerkraut cream. It sounds odd but it was surprisingly delicious. There was also quinoa vegan sushi that I didn't love because I'm not an avocado fan but my husband gave it two thumbs up. The quin-fu was also delicious but the photos aren't that great because we took the food back to our hotel overlooking St. Peter's Basilica and enjoyed dinner on...
