This place makes some of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had! The bread is baked fresh on-site, and new batches come out while you wait in line. It’s not just any bread—it’s traditional Tuscan schiacciata, a flatbread that is crispy on the outside and soft inside. When the staff slices it open, you immediately see the owner’s motto: "BADA COME LA FUMA," which means "Look how it smokes!"
The cheese and tomatoes are so tasty that they often take the spotlight over the sauce or meat you pick. They use high-quality, local ingredients that stand out with every bite. For example, the famous La Favolosa sandwich is filled with sbriciolona salami, homemade pecorino cream, artichoke cream, and spicy eggplant. It is known worldwide for good reason.
Although the lines at their Rome locations, especially near the Pantheon, can be long, the staff works quickly to get you your big, loaded sandwich. For just €8-€12, the size and quality are a great deal.
We visited for the first time with friends, and later checked out their other locations in Rome. Yes, they are a chain that started in Florence in 1991, but they really serve delicious sandwiches that...
Read moreNot sure if we got there at a bad moment but we ordered a Toscana sandwich, and at the time we were the only ones waiting for a sandwich. The lady who was going to make the sandwich couldn't be more upset that she had to make it, she was making frustrated faces, huffed and puffed and appeared annoyed to make it and was rolling her eyes. Another customer appeared who thought our sandwich was hers so zucchini and rocket were planted on it, then placed off it, then the sandwich got placed on the back counter to be binned, then the next minute a load of sun dried tomatoes were thrown on the same sandwich and handed to us so we had rocket, zucchini and something else on the sandwich which we didn't ask for - good job none of us were allergic to anything. Service was appalling to be honest but everyone else seemed to rave about it! Maybe it was us - who knows but Im so glad we didn't queue for ages to get it as I would have been annoyed myself, threw half of it away due to all the other excess...
Read moreA great panino with many fresh selections! Easy to choose from the dedicated menu (QR codes on door, or on their wall) or just "pick and choose" kind of subway-style what you would like. I chose the pistachio-lovers "Pistachio #4" which was great! Seeing fresh focaccia coming out every couple of minutes to the counter: fresh and hot - ready to be constructed - and all the beautiful fresh Italian toppings, cheeses, hams, etc. Quite impressive and amazing just to see!!! Overall the panino was filling, crispy, but not overly savoury and mouthwatering as I had expected. Visually a 11/10 but the taste wasn't...
