Antica Enoteca RISTORANTE -WINE BAR — Restaurant in Rome

For an aperitivo, this is a great enoteca (for a glass of wine and antipasti) and it is very close to the Piazza di Spagna. Go see Piazza Navona and the Pantheon and then come here to enjoy a glass of prosecco in a cool relaxing space.

Located on Via della Croce, just to the west of Piazza di Spagna, it is between the piazza and the Corso (this will make sense once you look at a map). It's next to a very famous restaurant called Othello where my parents first took me during the 1970s.

Whenever I return to Rome, I always come back here. I discovered this place in 1995 and Antica Enoteca remains one of my favorite spots in the city. It's the perfect place to wait for your friends; Antica Enoteca is in the middle of Rome's major shopping district. Go here and read the newspaper while the others in your party are exploring the stores.

Consistently, it has remained a deal. Bottles of wine for only 25 Euros. Plates of cheese and wonderful prosciutto. It gets five stars because it is perfect...

At first glance this seemed like it catered to tourists, which is usually a turn off for me, but I was pleasantly surprised. I ate a pasta special: spaghetti pomodorini with strachiatella cheese. Normally when I order a pasta dish, or bruschetta with burratta or strachiatella, the portion of the cheese is small; this was massive. (I mixed in about half of the cheese by the time I took the photo). The tomatoes were sweet and delicious. One of my favorite plates recently. My Dad had a margarita pizza. They cook it Roman style here. It was good. He noted that the ingredients tasted very fresh, but that the dough was thicker here than other places.

Service was mixed. Some servers were very attentive and helpful. Others not so much.

The location here is great, especially to pop in for a late lunch or aperativo if you’ve been walking around near Piazza del Popolo, the Spanish Steps, or Via del Corso. Prices here are comparatively reasonable to nearby restaurants.

There are not too many true bars in the area of Rome we stayed at - Belsiana House near the Spanish Steps. We are American and love to sit at our bar and watch the bartenders do there thing Gorkem was our bartender. He was fantastic, entertaining him watching him completing numerous Aperol and Elderflower spritzes while completing restaurant orders as well! We loved him We had the Tri Bruscetta thinking we are getting little bruschettas with a small topping … NOT … we had three large toasted slice of whole grain breads topped with cheeses, anchovies, prosciutto, and salmon (different proteins on every piece).

It was a meal!

Wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who wants the best cocktail this side of Rome. No BS. Not advertising. The Belvedere Cosmo was the best my wife has had anywhere in the world! Even beat mine.
