Gelateria Valentino — Restaurant in Rome

Gelato was very average, but the crazy thing was how rude the lady at the counter was. I asked if I could try one flavour (ONLY ONE) before choosing my gelato and she said "absolutely not". Yeah, alright. Fair enough. Must be their policy, I thought. However she then said "there aren't any shops in Rome where you can try gelato since covid". What a load of rubbish: I was laughing so hard. I then answered to her: "you don't need to justify yourself, but DO NOT lie to me. I've been in over 10 gelato shops in Rome during my stay over and nobody, except you, refused a little trial" In addition, she must hate her life so much: not a smile, not a warming welcome, worst customer service ever. Oh.....my......gaaaaaawwwwd! 6 of us have now had 13 flavors and ALL were killer. I must eat everything they have to protect all others from this food! Smooooooth gelato, perhaps the smoothest ive ever had. Their taste runs a slightly different palate intensity flavor wise compared to my other favorite gelato joint...ferraras bakery little Italy nyc. Valentinos is a touch more subtle. The gelato is flavor packed, not the super sweet sugar buzzy c rap you can buy on most blocks within rome. Inventive flavors too, tastes like they suggest by the names as you expect. Many flavors have bits of the main ingredient giving it more than just the smooth tongue sensation most gelato. Go...eat...do the...

TLDR: don’t waste your time here. They shortchange you both in gelato and in money.

I usually don’t leave reviews but this experience left a bad taste in my mouth, figuratively. The gelato was extremely fluffy and overpriced for the size and quality. Definitely a tourist trap.

When it was time to pay, I had the exact change, though there were smaller coins. The man insisted that I give a larger bill. Where in turn he gave me even more change that I originally was trying to get rid of.

To top it all off, he shortchanged me $.50. He clearly knew as once he saw me actually counting the change, he said “I think I still owe you 50”. Don’t waste your time here. There’s way better...
