This delicious ristorante was recommended by a Roman for "true Roman cuisine". If you have not traveled to Italy here is some advice I can give you when it comes to dining out and given to me by a friend and regular visitor to Italy (skip past 1-5 for the food review if you have been to Italy and know what to expect)
Do not eat at restaurants with the menu in four different languages.
Be patient, relax and enjoy your time. Italian meals can go on for 2, 3, even 4 hours, the table is yours for the evening.
This isn't America they won't coddle you (I'm from the US born and raised btw) and check in on you every 5 minutes. It's seen as interrupting your evening out, if you need something you should be polite and friendly with a smile and request it.
A lot of restaurants are closed between 3-7 and if they aren't it is catering the typical tourist, its not about turning over tables here, its an experience.
I will add to this by saying don't eat at the restaurant a hotel recommends (unless you are talking to a native local) we learned this part the hard way.
At Broccoletti the cacio e pepe was perfecto! Since I had ordered the not so good version the night before (we broke rule 5) my girlfriend ordered it here and it was the real deal. Prepared correctly and not over peppered or overly creamy,
I ordered the amatriciana and it was so good, my mouth is watering now just thinking about it.
Everything else was on point and as expected. We are not food snobs but not fast food eaters either. We did go to two different Michelin starred places for our first time ever while in Italy which was quite an experience with a full tasting menu but you don't need a Michelin rating to get fine cuisine in Italy. We will be back in Rome as soon as we can! We loved it there and we loved our experience at Broccoletti....
Read moreWe ate at Brocoletti a few times on our trip to Rome. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. The service was swift and attentive. The food was great on every occasion. Their home-made bread was just delicious. On the night of my birthday, however, I lost my engagement ring with quite a large diamond there only to notice it about an hour later back in the hotel. Imagine my state of mind! I was absolutely distraught! It’s bad enough to lose your engagement ring, but to do so on your birthday night makes it even worse. I was in tears and really upset. I phoned the restaurant immediately. Thank God they found the ring. It was Sunday night, about midnight. The restaurant was going to be closed the next day. I just couldn’t stop panicking. But then the gentleman who owns the place (I am very sorry I didn’t ask your and your lovely wife’s names) said he would bring it to our hotel in 10 minutes. We waited outside to avoid any confusion with the address (as we stayed in a small guest house). I was still crying. But there he was, my knight in shining armour, turning up from around the corner on his motorbike. He then moved as if to kneel down to propose with the ring; this small sweet gesture brought a big smile to my face. It was pure kindness and understanding. It saved my holiday, my birthday and restored my faith in humanity. There are still honest decent people out there. Thank you...
Read moreWow, the service here was the worst I’ve experienced in a long time. My girlfriend and I are visiting Rome for a few days and are taking in all the sights and tastes we can before our next Italian destination. We unfortunately happened upon this restaurant based on our Airbnb host recommendation.
From the start, we felt rushed in choosing the food we wanted. The server was not friendly at all; she spoke maybe a dozen words to us tops. After ordering the house wine, an appetizer, and a dinner entree each, we waited patiently for our wine… which never arrived. Our entrees were brought out in about twenty minutes. Where was the appetizer? Only the pope knows where that went. The food we received wasn’t bad, but you can probably find better nearby.
After finishing our entrees, deciding the wine would never arrive, and writing off the appetizer as missing in action, we decided to ask for the check so we could peace tf out of there. Our server never checked in at any point (or we would’ve asked her where our wine was), so we had to ask the other server for the check. We asked and did not receive it after waiting ten minutes. Our server was on the other side of the restaurant rolling silverware into napkins!
We finally got our check after asking again and got the hell out. Paid for water and bread we thought were...
