I am visiting Rome for the first time and while I don’t Mind Italian food, it has never really been my first choice. I had a few decent Italian dishes while on a food tour so on the last day of my trip I decided I would try an Italian restaurant as my grand finale. After reviewing different menus within the square, and being invited into them, I decided I would try Virgilio. The hostess who was outside soliciting customers was nice and about to seat me at a table and a man with a white shirt with black tie who I had seen at the tables while I had been in the square stopped her. In Italian, he told her something and with a stern face shook his head. She then turned to me with a disappointed face (as if not wanting to upset me) but situationally aware, I understood that he did not want me there. I looked at him and simply said: “Don’t worry about it.” and walked away because I refuse to beg someone to provide a service that I would be paying for. I walked around for a few minutes but wanted management aware of what had happened so I returned. It was then that another young lady who was serving tables advised me that He (the man who denied my seating) Was the manager (so I knew that my complaint would be falling on deaf ears and I left. I am rather disappointed because I did not have breakfast with the intention of having a hearty lunch before my evening flight. This was a rather unfortunate...
Read moreWe went to lunch here our first day in Rome shortly after arriving. It was busy when we arrived but were seated right away. We speak minimal Italian and the waiter spoke minimal English which was fine, we ordered drinks and pointed to the menu and he confirmed twice exactly what we ordered (two pizzas, very easy). The drinks came quickly but food was taking a long time. We were patient and didn’t say anything but soon it was cleared out so we weren’t sure what was taking so long. We ordered another drink and the waiter asked why we didn’t want food. We reminded him we had ordered pizzas and he essentially told us he never put the order in but that he admitted it was his fault and that it would be 5 minutes. The food itself was alright, one pizza cooked well the other super crispy and cracked apart immediately. We thought maybe he would comp a drink or something for the long mistake but it’s fine he didnt. We were happy to pay for everything but then he stood over us while using the machine insisting we add a tip despite the terrible experience. Would...
Read moreI wouldn’t recommend this place,it’s a tourist trap. The waiters offered us a deal. 14€ for bruschetta,pizza/pasta, and drink. We didn’t even get to choose our drinks,he just gave us two bottles of water for 9 people and when my friend bought a coke,he charged us 4€,even though we thought there was I drink included in the deal. The bruschetta wasn’t good. It was drenched in olive oil. Our food took long, but that wasn’t the problem. I personally liked my friend’s pizza, but she said it tasted really cheap for 14€,like a frozen 2€pizza from a store. I had the gnocchi with Quattro formaggi. You can’t imagine how drenched it was in oil. I had to take some of the oil off with a paper, because it was so unappetising. But I have to say, taste wise the gnocchi was good. Only problem was WAY too much oil. My other friend had a burger and liked it. The pasta bolognese of my other friend tasted like a scam. Like a straight up grocery story sauce. Not good at all. And quite basic. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant for THAT price. Go...
