This place has set menus where you can pay 1100 yen (tax included) for 3 shot sized samples of 3 different sake. The problem with this place is the menu doesn’t allow you to select your own varieties, and the sake they chose for you is the cheapest and nastiest of the selection. I asked for a sweet and delicious sake recommendation from the bar tender, who promoted one particular sake for me to try. This sake, however, was 770 yen for one shot.
If this sake wasn’t so delicious, I would have given this place 2 stars. I then asked about where to buy this sake and the bar tender told me it isn’t available for public. A little research contradicted this, showing the 500ml bottle available in limited quantities for around 2000-2500 yen for a bottle in 1 bottle shop in Kyoto.
Paid the equivalent of $24 Australian dollars for 4 shots. To put this in perspective... In Shibuya, Tokyo, you can pay 1100 yen for 30 minutes of unlimited sake sampling at Kurand sake market which has limited edition sake, with a variety of 100 sake available for sampling.
Would not recommend this place if you have an idea of what you like when it comes to sake. Will upload the photo of the delicious (sweet) sake that I tried here for those interested in a decent sake...
Read moreThis is a fantastic little gem within the city! The bar is very cozy and the staff are incredibly interactive and knowledgeable about the sales they serve. They make great recommendations and give additional information about the individual sakes we tried. I tried the Sakura sake flight, which is fantastic and included a unique and quite delicious pink sake. My friend tried the luxury sake flight which was also outstanding. The selection of sake is incredible and gives many options for tasting and sampling some unique and delicious sakes. In addition, there's a beautiful small river just outside the bar that is quite delightful, especially at night. Overall, I can't recommend...
Read moreLooking for a place to try a variety of sake for the first time (and not just one or two from a restaurant), I found this gem while wandering the streets. They introduced me to a few introductory tastes, nothing strong, and then we were able to find some others that really appealed to my preferences. I got a good load on here because there was a good selection and sake (unlike beer or liquor) doesn't give me any hangovers, lucky! Too bad my favorite was also non-existent in stores and even the servers said it's hard to get. I'll just have to come back...
