Tempura & Wine Kojima — Restaurant in Kyoto

I've never put tempura and wine together in the same sentence and this was an opportunity to explore that combination.

Nice brightly lit, clean-cut ambiance with ample seating even for larger groups. Having an English menu and QR code ordering made the process easy and painless (easy to over-order too if your eyes are bigger than your stomach).

Eggplant tempura with prosciutto, tomato rice and curry croquettes fried in tempura batter and chocolate framboise with salt are definitely not available in your regular tempura shop! My personal standouts were conger eel, raw scallops and eggplant.

Overall, the batter wasn't too heavy and a quick dip in the soy tentsuyu dip was enough to bring out the flavor of the ingredients. Wasabi and regular salt were provided and certainly worked well with some ingredients. In conclusion, tempura and wine do go...

Tempura and Wine Kojima: We decided to go to this gem on the spur of the moment. It’s not a big place and it was packed with patrons, which is a good sign😊, but we were quickly seated. The vibe is relaxed and designed for people to talk, snack and drink. They have lots of great food options, many seasonal and not on the menu (just look on the wall above your table) and most items have English translations, some with pictures. The service was quick even though everything is made to order. The ingredients are also fresh. The dishes are small and reasonably priced. If you’re really hungry you don’t have to limit yourself; think of it like making a meal of appetizers. They have many alcoholic options and a reasonable amount of nonalcoholic drink choices. I definitely recommend this place and will return the next time...

I am working as a tour guide for German guests and I tried this location in Kyoto for the first time for my German customers.

The interior and also the food composition are quite modern and very appealing for my taste. They try to bring a fancy and kind of "hip" note into the traditional Tempura food.

The staff was very attentive and kind, also to foreigners, and the food was served quite fast.

The quality and taste of the food was excellent and I was so surprised that you could even get Sashimi of excellent quality and taste and all of my customers enjoyed the Sashimi in a tempura restaurant!
