Kuromonsakae Sushi — Restaurant in Osaka

I was wandering through the market and picked this place because the tout was a smiling older lady and I'm easily swayed. The staff do not speak English but ordering was easy, just wrote the number of the item on a notepade and a little hand wave "sumimasen". Cold fresh water was provided immediately, food came out quickly. I tried 3 x different nigiri (fatty tuna, salmon with cheese and the cooked eel). Melted in my mouth. Very fresh and delicious. Ordered another two. The staff seem quite friendly with the locals which is always nice to see. When paying the woman spoke no English but rung up my bill with no trouble, register shows the total (a little expensive but given the location I had expected. Still not bad). Even with no English she complimented my necklace with gestures. I noticed a few reviews mentioning the staff were rude. I disagree. There is a language barrier but they were attentive, speedy and I definitely didnt feel unwelcome in the establishment (as a tall, tattooed and dyed hair gaijin). The food was alright, but nothing remarkable or memorable. The menu offered standard dishes without any unique or creative twists. However, the lackluster food was overshadowed by the incredibly unpleasant service. The lady who seemed to be in charge was unfriendly and unwelcoming, making us feel like we were an inconvenience rather than valued customers. It was unclear whether there was a language barrier or if this was simply her demeanor, but it significantly impacted our overall experience. Good food let down by poor service.

This sushi shop is right opposite another. They both have touts outside vying for business but this one is a bit more aggressive in presuming customers.

We decided to give it a try. The food was actually pretty good. Probably a 3 or 4 star spot on food alone. The orders came out quick after you write it down in the provided paper and sumimasen the staff.

However, one of the older female staff inside was extremely bad at customer service. They didn't respond to any please or thank yous. Just plopped items down without saying a word. It was very rude and made you feel unwelcome.
