FOREIGNER REVIEW: the reviews had me scared, but I decided to do it anyways. The staff (at least when I went) were VERY friendly and communicated with me via translated yes/no cards.
Yes, I was the only white guy inside, but no one gave me any strange looks. The baths and steam room are very hot, everyone is naked, and you shower sitting down. The facility is very “traditional” no luxury, but if you’re ok with no frills, then go!
You leave your towel in your locker, and you shower before and after using the baths/steam room. There’s a vending machine inside with water and soft drinks… I’m not sure if you can drink from the tap.
Would recommend 100%, just be respectful, humble, and watch what others do, and you will be fine. Honestly it was not as bad as people said in the...

When I entered and proceeded to the changing area, I was met with open hostility from another guest. He clenched his fist, made aggressive gestures, and moved towards me in a way that clearly signaled an intent to attack. What shocked me even more was that the changing area was quite busy, and none of the other Japanese guests intervened. They simply watched as if this kind of behavior was acceptable.

Read moreForeigner review here. Its not awkward at all, nobody talks, nobody cares. Few tips : Take off your shoes even before the first step off the street as you enter. There are special shoe lockers outside the lobby. Buy the full option ticket for towels and shampoo, conditioner and soap. Inside when you get naked, the lockers each have a key with a rubber wrist band. Its well thought out. I feel safe leaving my wallets and valuables in the locker. In the shower area, the sitting stools are tucked on its side and they look mini sinks initially. Took me a while to figure out thats the stool for me to sit on. There are clocks in the bath and locker rooms to keep...
