Recently tried some Thai-style dishes and was intrigued by the flavors. Though the dishes were tasty, I found them to be a bit milder than I had expected. Coming in with the assumption that Thai food is typically known for its bold flavors, rich spices, and distinct heat, I was surprised to find that these dishes were somewhat subdued. They seemed to have less of the spice and strong flavors that I usually associate with Thai cuisine.
After reflecting on it, I started to think that this could be an adaptation made to suit the local palate here in Japan. Japanese cuisine, while delicious in its own right, is generally milder and less reliant on heavy spices or intense chili heat. It’s possible that this Thai restaurant has adjusted its recipes to cater to Japanese customers who might not be as accustomed to the stronger, spicier notes common in traditional Thai dishes.
While I enjoyed the meal, part of me still craves that authentic punch of spice and zest I’ve come to expect from Thai food. I think I’ll look for another Thai spot to see if I can experience those more intense flavors next time, but overall, it was still a pleasant...
