This is a review of the Hobgoblin Super Bowl parties. I went to see the football games both last and this year -- it's one of the few places in Tokyo where we foreigners can go at 8:30 a.m. to see the event. This year it was awesome -- I went with a group of 7 friends and we had a great time (especially since the Chiefs won). Tips: 1) Make a reservation to attend the event in advance 2) Get there early to grab a good table. My friends got there before doors opened (8 a.m.). The bar accepts cash and credit cards. This year the party cost 6,000 yen, and that includes 2 drinks and the breakfast buffet. I believe it cost the same last year. The food is delicious, but this year the waffle machine was broken and they were served cold. Also they tasted very "eggy." It sucked because last year you could make your own waffles and the mix tasted much better. The crowd is 99% foreigners with some Japanese people attending as well. The ambience is nice, but depending on who is playing, the fans can get very passionate. Overall I think it's the best place to watch the Super Bowl in Tokyo and I highly recommend...
Read moreOne of the regular joints for all the foreigner expats working in Roppongi area and rightly situated on the Roppongi dori. Inside will have the typical green color everywhere feeling of an Irish place, but the name says its all British and many British beer labels are available here. Coming down from Mori Tower and spending the Thursday or Friday evening here before catching the Hibiya line with all other drunkards will be ritual to do if you belong to the salary class :-) There is no table service, you have to go and pay at the bar and order whatever food you want. You will get a placard with a number and the staff will come and service you the plate a little later. We ended up here with starters and pizzas and a half a dozen pints to gulp down. Outside on the road just be careful of those Nigerian hawkers on the street soliciting for a massage parlor or some other shady place. If the place has a Nigerian guys soliciting, it will be mostly running something a bit shady and crowd does not flow in there...
Read moreCame for the thanksgiving dinner. Was excited to see a place in Japan where you could have turkey and other thanksgiving staples. The food itself was good, and the staff was polite. However, I highly recommend against the thanksgiving dinner for anyone on the fence, simply because the cost performance is awful. I was shocked when I realized how little food it actually included for the price of ¥6000. The servings of dressing, casserole (?), and cornbread it included were all bite sized. On paper, it sounded like a lot of food because of the variety, but in reality I walked away feeling like I could order a second. I get that being able to have thanksgiving food in Tokyo is a novelty, so you’re going to pay more than you normally would, and I think that’s fair. But they should knock the price of the set down by at least ¥2000 yen, or at LEAST give bigger portions on the turkey plate. At current price, I only recommend doing it if you just don’t care about money and just want something resembling...
