I enjoyed my meal, being able to use the tablet to order made things a lot easier, and the server for my section was kind and helpful. However, I got very loudly and rudely scolded in the middle of the restaurant — for something that I didn't even do!
Even if I had made the mistake of not ordering the drinks bar, the treatment I received was unacceptable, and I never received an apology from the staff that shouted at me; instead I just got corrected twice for the minor mistake I actually did make – using the wrong cup. While I enjoyed the food and the atmosphere, this experience was completely humiliating, so I can't say I'd recommend coming here or...
Read moreOotoya is a well-known chain across Japan, almost akin to a trusted family-oriented diner serving classic Japanese set meals at very reasonable prices given their portion sizes. We tried one of their Ginza locations and we're pleasantly surprised with how good their karaage teishoku (set meal) was for the price. Their batter is lighter and has different taste to typical karaage in Japan which made the experience all the better.
If you're not sure about what to eat but want something fresh at a reasonable price, and even try something new or different meals to share, Ootoya is a great introduction to typical...
This Ootoya restaurant is located on the basement floor of the Ginza Conti Building. At first glance, one might assume that the only way up to the basement is by stairs, but since there is also an elevator to go up and down, even people with disabilities such as wheelchairs or people carrying large luggage can easily use the elevator. Because this Ootoya is located in the middle of Ginza, many foreign tourists can be seen among the customers. Upon entering the restaurant, it appears that the restaurant is divided into a seating area for small groups of one or two people and a seating area for three or more people (the areas are not strictly separated). Therefore, customer turnover in the seating areas for small groups is not bad, but the turnover of customers in the seating areas for 3 or more people is not so good. Therefore, the line of foreign tourists, especially those with four or more people, often forms near the entrance waiting to be seated, which can make the restaurant feel a bit cramped. The quality of the staff's customer service is not bad, but they seem to be uniformly unbusy. There are tablet terminals for ordering, but they are not always available (they seem to be available upon request). The quality of the dishes served is comparable to other Ootoya...
