Food was good, service was terrible. We were there before it opened, as were a bunch of others. As soon as it opens, the staff let one group in and spend a whole 5 minutes slowly walking around, checking on this one group and serving them drinks before sitting anyone else out of the large group of customers waiting to sit down. She then lets one more group in, and somehow spends a full ten minutes dawdling around really slowly, sitting this group down, bringing them water and taking their order rather than sitting more people down first, she literally stood there waiting for them to choose which took 10 minutes, not an estimate or exaggeration, I kept note of the exact time, just come back to them after sitting people. By this point, there’s about 15 more people standing around outside waiting to be seated and she took forever to get to everyone. This isn’t because she was so busy, she was walking around slowly, not rushing. She just didn’t care to see to the customers. The food took a long time too but I won’t complain about that because the chef has to actually cook but the one waitress who was in no rush for anybody was ridiculous. Hire more staff if the staff you already have take 15 minutes to sit 2 groups in an empty, just opened restaurant. Wouldn’t go back. Don’t come here if you’re planning on grabbing a quick breakfast, you’ll be...
Read moreI had a wonderful weekday breakfast at Original Pancake House! If you are looking for Japanese fluffy pancakes, this is the place to go. The pancakes I ordered were very tasty, and the batter was fully cooked throughout, which can be hard to achieve with this kind of pancake. I would recommend ordering the fluffy pancakes with fruit, since the fruit adds a nice fresh component. The service was good, and it was a generally relaxing environment considering how crowded it was.
I saw some reviewers didn’t love the fact it is in a mall, but in Tokyo it is normal to find great restaurants in malls or stations. It is a nice mall too, so I don’t think it took away from the experience at all.
It is located in the 7th floor of the LUMINE EST mall (not to be confused with LUMINE 1). You will most likely find a queue of people waiting for a table when you arrive, but you won’t need to physically line up. They have a virtual queue system which allows you to save your place in line and then you can sit down while you wait. Your best bet is to show up right at 11 when they open if you don’t...
Read moreI’ve only tried two Fuwa Fuwa Pancake restaurants - this one and Fleur in Kyoto.
For those who have never tried a fuwa fuwa pancake, they are actually nothing like the normal US ones. These are soufflé inspired, melt in your mouth goodness, and if you’ve never tried soufflé - imagine an Angel taking a slice of cloud and delicately placing it in your mouth :)
Both restaurants are definitely worth the visit for their pancakes. Although Original Pancake House, fuwa fuwa pancakes are deliciously light and moose like (slightly undercooked) which personally I loved. I would definitely recommend you NOT TO SHARE THIS PLATE. I made that mistake and totally regretted it after the first mouthful. These guys are deceiving little fatties, you will always finish a plate of them, no matter how full you might feel from your last meal.
I actually always post pictures in my reviews and this is probably the first one I forgot to take a picture of - obviously way to excited to try...
