This is an absolute must-visit dessert shop for cooling down and quenching your thirst! I’ve been here twice, and it never disappoints. On my first visit, we came after dinner around 8.05pm. We originally wanted to order the C5 Coconut Shake Special in a Cup (RM8), but the staff informed us that C4 to C9 were all sold out. Since we were already there, we decided to try another highly recommended item, the C3 Coconut Pudding (RM15). It was indeed a fantastic choice! The pudding was rich with the aroma of fresh coconut milk and served inside the original coconut shell, making it a perfect combination. Halfway through, I even scraped some tender coconut meat from the shell—so relieved it wasn’t tough old coconut meat, which would have ruined the experience. This dish is truly a must-try—absolutely delicious! The next morning, after breakfast, we came back again around 1pm. The place was packed with people, many of whom seemed to be there for photos. It was quite a surprise since the night before, we had been the only customers. Clearly, the shop lives up to its reputation as a go-to spot for refreshing treats. This time, I ordered the C5 Coconut Shake Special that I couldn’t get the night before. Honestly, while it was okay, I still think the coconut milkshake in Melaka tastes better. It didn’t quite live up to my expectations, especially since I had made a second trip just to try it. But no matter—it just means I’ll stick to the Coconut Pudding next time, which I wholeheartedly recommend!

BOTTOM LINE - a coconut-focused dessert spot with a small, but flavorful menu (rated 4.2 / 5, in comparison to other dessert spots in Asia) WHY YOU SHOULD GO - Quality: a light and tasty coconut ice cream and pandan coconut "shake", which could have been colder, but had plenty of bits of fresh coconut strips in it - Value: reasonably priced at 8 RM for the ice cream and the shake - Vibe and Service: chilled spot, indoor seating with air con and sofas, great tropical / coconut theme throughout. Service was also quick and pleasant. GOOD TO KNOW - the WiFi wasn't working while I was there and no options for toppings * Pics of the menu and coconut theme as you walk in

Ordered coconut pudding and coconut shake with ice cream. Coconut pudding is refreshing and flavourfully fragrant with fresh coconut though it could be better if less sweet to bring out the coconut taste. Unlike many other coconut pudding that uses quick ingredients of coconut milk (santan), this shop balances it well (merit on that). 4.5 out of 5. Coconut shake blends the coconut flesh and water nicely, with no preservatives and sugar. The blunder I would say, is to use cheap vanilla ice cream. Spoils the blends. 3 out of 5.

A Must-Try Refreshment in Kota Kinabalu!

The coconut shake at The Royal Coconut is hands down one of the best beverages I’ve ever had, especially on a warm day in Kota Kinabalu. The drink is perfectly blended—smooth, creamy, and incredibly refreshing. You can really taste the freshness of the coconut, which makes it stand out from other similar drinks I’ve tried.

What I loved most is how it strikes the perfect balance between sweetness and natural coconut flavor. It’s not overly sugary, allowing the pure, tropical taste to shine through. The generous serving size is also a bonus, making it well worth every cent.

Kota Kinabalu can get quite hot, and this drink is the ideal way to cool down. It feels like a tropical escape in a cup! Plus, the presentation is on point—served ice-cold and with just the right consistency to enjoy every sip.

The price is reasonable for such quality, especially considering the care put into every detail. Whether you’re a tourist or a local, I highly recommend stopping by The Royal Coconut to experience this treat. Trust me, you’ll be coming...
