Went there with my family of 7 for dim sum brunch. We got carried away and ordered a fair amount of food. Looks great in the photo.
The place itself is spacious with tables quite spread out unlike most other dim sum places. This is nice as it is not overly crowded or noisy. There are 2 separate dining area. The original main building feels a bit clinical lacking any warmth and ambiance. Whereas the attached glasshouse feels more private and special. It has 3 extremely powerful air condition units hanging from the ceiling. You may think sitting inside the glasshouse is going to be warm. But this wasn’t the case when we were there. It was nice and cool with the right temperature making it nice and comfortable to dine inside the glasshouse.
The food I expected will be expensive before we ate there as previously commented by other diners. However, I wasn’t expecting our pot of tea was going to be the most expensive item on the receipt. We asked for a pot of pu-erh. But never asked for 2 pots. When the bill came I asked why the tea was RM$56 for 7 people. The staff told me it was for 2 pots. We never asked for 2 pots. We were given 2 small size glass tea pot (western style) with tiny Chinese tea cups. She explained the tea pot only serves 3-4 people. This is absurd as it wasn’t the customer problem to be served at a dim sum place with a small western style glass teapot with a tiny Chinese tea cups! And that glass teapot has to be refilled as it would only pour 3-4 cups! Absurdity at its worst.
As for the food, I wasn’t expecting much. It was a good spread of dishes we’ve chosen. They all came about the same time. That was good. There were some hit and miss. The milky wine aroma noodle soup came in a big portion. Soup was delicious. The deep fried taro dumplings with char siew inside was excellent. Stir fried turnip cake aka koay kak was equally nice and tasty. The rest of the dishes were just average, and the worse is the fried rice which was bland and tasteless.
There is a service charge of 10% and SST charge of 6%. The staff service was good so the 10% is justifiable for a place like this. Our total bill came to RM$334.10.
The building is located at a challenging corner between Burmah Road and Transfer Road. It is a busy intersection with limited parking spots inside the compound. Fortunately a car was leaving when we got there. Otherwise you may have to find a street parking space across from...
Read moreIt's a fairly new place. I attended an event where the menu was already chosen, and it was an extremely filling meal. Each course wasn't excessive (fortunately) but in totality, it all adds up. What I love about it was each course explored a different structure, texture, taste and presentation. It was certainly well planned and I appreciated the effort that the chefs took to design the menu.
They started with a simple snack of Chicken Ham & Egg Sandwich (lightly flavoured, fairly average), Vegetables Spring Roll and Curry Potato Samosa which were small sized and fried to a lovely colour. The sweet chilli sauce was average but I loved the the peanut sauce, unbelievable creamy which doesn't stick to your teeth and gum.
The main dining experience started with the Tuna Tartare and Limone-Avocado in Spinach Crust. Good zing and really fresh delicious tasting tuna but the crust I felt was a little thick. Would've preferred a thinner crust for a better mix.
I enjoyed the Cold Truffle Capellini which had a light and fortunately not overwhelming truffle taste with good supporting saltiness from the Clam and Black Roe. Next came the soup, a lovely thick Red Tomato Bisque that mixes well with a nice fresh chew of Basil. Loved the next dish, simple minimalist grill of the prawn which had a nice char taste that paired well with the light wasabi cream.
I strangely didn't enjoy the seabass. My tongue couldn't appreciate the combination of the sambal on the fish with the lime coconut sauce, I felt it clashed a little too much. I did however enjoy the crackling fish skin. As for the pork, enjoyed the sauce and felt that the risotto combined well, with an enjoyable crispy shallot. I just felt that the pork was a little dry, which the sauce and wet risotto was able to mediate.
The meal ended with an Osmanthus Tofu Cheesecake. Loved the light creamy taste, the cheese taste did overwhelm the tofu though. But in the end, I did have a great meal and most of the components gelled well. Taste is a funny thing, what works for you not necessarily will work for me but overall, I enjoyed the story that they were...
Read moreVisit my Instagram @janefoodbaby for more! Another random discovery (that's DAMN GOOD)!! I was walking around the Komtar area one evening and randomly saw this place on another side of the road. Thankfully they got me in despite a very last minute reservation! 🥹
Service was excellent, ambience was great - they have live band when I was there. The only downside is the noise in the restaurant was too loud. But it's fine since the food was good enough for me to focus on 🤪
Food/Price: Seared Japan Scallop with Ikura (MYR 42.80) - This was the only dish I think they could do better. Scallops seem overcooked and sunk. Overall taste was ok.
[MUST ORDER!] 2. Fresh oysters (MYR 25 per pc) - BEST DISH OF THE NIGHT! 🤤🤩 Not too sure if these are Japanese oysters(?) They are so fresh and juicyyy! Should have spent the whole night eating only these oysters 🤣
Truffle fries w/parmesan cheese (MYR 18.80) - Crispy fries with truffle mayo! Similar as the one at Cafe-Bistrot David but the latter is better with its unlimited refill of cheese 🧀
*4-7 were ordered as a set, you can also order them as ala carte
Secret Garden Salad - Who doesn't love sesame dressing 🤩 lots of vege and fruits in this salad - so refreshing!
Mushroom soup - Their mushroom soup was so kaw - lots of shrooms in it! But it's not so kaw until will feel jelak also 🍄
Baked red miso butter Atlantic Halibut (MYR 89.80) - The price of the set depends on your main. Halibut is priced at MYR 44.80 for ala carte. While I think they executed this dish really well - tender and flavorful, I wish they give a thicker slice 🥹 Mashed potatoes is slightly on the dry side - better if they have some sauce on the side.
Dessert of the day - Rose lychee cake was not too bad. I love whipped cream A LOT but their cream macam too much. Or should I say the cake layer was too little? 🤔
I highly recommend this place if you're a seafood lover! Restaurant with good food + good service are hard to come by these days. Their prices are very reasonable as well. I will...
