Terrible experience today at green house prawn noodle. Ordered hokkien meehoon around 1.15am. There was a man who ordered for a small group of people around 2 other people. I know I have to wait for some time for my order to be ready, this I do not mind but when the noodles finally arrive I thought it was mine but it was for the other people who ordered after me. From what I heard when the lady who brought the food with the man of the small group because suddenly short of bowls to serve my table and the other table, turned out that small group took my food because they wanted to order extra and did not bother to even inform that they are taking an extra bowl. The owners of this shop is not fully to be blamed on this as it was rude of that group to just take people's food because they do not want to wait, but the owners should actually check the number of orders for each table.. If not because of the customers who ordered after me, I will be waiting there until the shop close and food not arrive and that group of people will get the extra bowl for free (taking food that other poeple paid for) . If that group of people read this comment, pls know that it is very inconsiderate and selfish of you to have done that.

The reason that I am angry and disappointed with the owners is when they were preparing for my bowl again they could not be bothered and irresponsibly prepared my food because they wanted to close the shop, my meehoon was not even cook together with the soup, I felt that they just scooped the soup then put the ingredients and then the meehoon. The meehoon in my bowl was hard, taken from counter/table top and dumped into a bowl of soup! The owners of the shop are not bothered that customers might get food poisoning if their food are not cooked properly.

I am never going there again, there are other food outlets open at...

The first thing that struck me was the umami. The soup is heavy with umami, thereafter, you will start appreciating the saltiness and spices. The bonus is that the soup will come boiling tongue hot, so, be careful with your first sip.

I ordered the standard bowl and it will come with pretty generous small prawns, with half piece of braised booked egg, taugeh. You can personally add more chilli if you see fit, dried fried shallots and garlic (at the stall). As a whole, I found this bowl delicious, appetizing and definitely one of the best in penang island. You won't go wrong trying the noodle here. As with all noodles, you can turbo charge it with additional small intestine, pigskin, chicken leg, etc, etc, etc.

A small note, green house prawn mee actually has 2 'branches'. Both located along the same road (Burma road) nearly 1km apart. The one I ate was at a Kopitiam called old green house restaurant, which according to the proprieter, is the original, and has been in existence for over 30 years. I actually came to this place accidentally. But in hindsight this is probably the better choice because you have a few other stalls with good food to complement your hokkien mee. From the reviews I read regarding their other stand alone restaurant corner, seating is limited and are usually full, and you may end up needing to eat at a different location from the ordering location. Granted they are closeby but still, pretty strange.

In summary, an incredible bowl of umami heavy hokkien mee which I would suggest you try at their stall branch located at...

I randomly pass by this shop one day. Ard 5pm@26march2023. After making order. The counter display the menu in beautiful picture & they put big2 logo michelin 1 star. Upon food arriving. The food looking weird & somehow geli. The broth of the loh mee looks too thick/and sticky. My friend order pure loh mee whereas i order mix. His n mine broth both taste sour and weird. (we spend like rm30+). Was Thinking oh. Maybe sour bcoz of the cuka? Maybe i think too much? I even order some longan water& forcefully trying to finish it. But it somehow taste like nightmare? 45min after the food intake. I vomit all...my friend pulak dizziness, feeling nausea, but no vomiting as he need driving, thus keep tahan. Last last we both ended up in a car crash which ended up car being towing(kinda major accident) (ok this is totally out of topic, i just want to say what 毛啦。臭酸了还敢卖local! An absolute disgrace to be listed in the Michelin Bid Gourmand list. The prawn noodles came with tiny shrimp and the critical soup base was lacking in flavour. Service was slow inspite of it being a post lunch period with only 2 other tables occuplied. An order of 6 bowls of prawn noodles and another of Lor Mee saw 4 prawn noodles totally forgotten. Oh and the Lor Mee was tastless, missing the vinegar kick, or the savoury flavour one expects from the thick lor gravy. Now I understand why they actually offer the weird combo of a bowl of a half prawn noodle and half lor mee version. So the not good but better than Lor Mee prawn noodle soup could help out the lor mee taste. The drinks order was mixed up and the entire meal was over priced for the quality provided. The otah which cost 5 RM similarly lacked flavour and had too runny a consistency. The Lor Bak was decent but at 5 RM a piece really not worth paying for. Long story short never going back, and would NOT recommend to anyone. Oh one decent item.... the braised hard boiled egg was pretty good. Read some of the other reviews and reconsidered if I wrote a fair review. Having eaten at two other Penang Prawn noodle shop within the same 48 hours period, I can say objectively the others were head and shoulders above this one. Cheaper and better in spite of not being Michelin mentioned.

Penang Hokkien Mee that has retained its signature fried pork lardos and herbal egg over several decades. Once a go-to stall towards the end of Burmah Road in an enclave of late night hawkers in the days before any megamalls or Starbucks, when the only evening entertainment was browsing through VCDs in this night spot. The basic bowl of noodles(RM6) is topped with a sprinkling of tiny slivers of shrimp and half a boiled egg hardly justifying its above average Penang price. The spicy prawn bisque has not maintained its once natural sweetness, but takes after any other MSG infused soup from a roadside stall. Mixing with lor, made little enhancement other than a gooey starch puddle to the dish. Adding pork intestines cost an unreasonable RM1.50. Decades of practice with Singaporean tourists have only bought a newer shop and an innovative menu, where the sum of the parts are greater than the total basic price of a bowl, while quality was left behind at the old location sometime ago.
