On our last day in Penang, since our flight wasn't until 10:20 PM, we had plenty of time for dinner. This restaurant wasn't far from the OZO hotel we were staying at – just a 5-minute walk.
Overall, it exceeded our expectations. First of all, the dining environment was clean and tidy. When we entered the restaurant, the waiter greeted us warmly and showed us to our seats. There were four of us, so we ordered a 3-4 person set meal (69 MYR), which included a whole platter of vegetables and 3 different flavors of pork belly, and of course, charcoal. In addition, we ordered tiger prawns, pork collar, oyster mushrooms, and Thai milk tea.
The highlight of Mookata is that you start with clear broth. As you grill the meat and shrimp, the juices drip down into the broth, creating an incredibly delicious stock. Then, you can use this broth to blanch vegetables and rice noodles. By the way, the water spinach and rice noodles are in the buffet area and can be refilled as much as you want, which is great. The buffet area offers six different flavors of Thai sauce, each with a unique taste and all very delicious. (We recommend taking only what you can finish in the buffet area for the sauces, water spinach, and rice noodles to avoid waste.)
We had a great time eating there, and we'll definitely go back next time we're in...

We ended up over-ordering certain dishes, like the salad eventhough we have no idea it was the salad category, because it wasn’t clear on the menu it self. That said, the staff were polite and the overall dining experience was still satisfying. A good spot if you’re mainly here for...
