I would recommend this place if you're looking at a heritage hotel located near to the local attractions, in the heart of George Town, yet peaceful and quiet, nicely decorated with rustic ambience and top-notch cleanliness. The hotel consists of 3 lots with 14 rooms. The last lot has 4 contemporary rooms with attached bathroom, which we're staying. While the 2 older lots has 10 rooms with heritage touch, but no attached bathroom. Guests have to walk pass the common area to reach the toilet / bathroom. Do call & check with you want a room with attached bathroom. The common area is a yard with beautiful landscape. It gave us a nostalgic feeling. This is a well preserved heritage building. Thumbs up 👍🏻 I rated 4 stars is because we faced hiccup with booking. I booked 2 rooms with different transactions made due to credit card issues. Few days before my check-in, only they emailed me to confirm how many rooms do I need as they afraid it was a duplicate bookings. When I called back & asked, they said not sure whether I can have both rooms and will revert, but they didn't. 1 day before check-in, I called again, the lady named Kris was rude, pushing me to switch to another lower grade room on my last night (I booked for 3 nights). She didn't apologise, gave me no option but to cooperate. I told her there's price difference, only she admitted. Anyway, during my check-in, they sorted it out. I still have to switch room on my last night, but it was upgraded. Overall, it was a pleasant stay at this beautiful hotel. They provide filter water dispenser, coffee & tea & biscuits at the pantry.

A very charming place and great for short term stays if you are used to hostels. The historical building has a gorgeous indoor courtyard and the traditional architecture is good at temperature and humidity regulation even if the AC is off. Very convenient location and the staff are very helpful and accommodating with good local knowledge There are things that make this place a little inconvenient - the bathroom, while not shared with anyone else, is separate to your bedroom and requires a key to access, but you are only given one set of keys which proved a logistical puzzle when travelling with other people. You also only get one towel per person without having access to a hairdryer. The old building has poor soundproofing, even a quiet conversation can be heard throughout the building. Despite the comfortable beds sleeping was difficult as you could hear everything, from footsteps to talking to luggage being dragged to everything outside. Even the floorboards creak and sometimes pinch your feet. Mosquitoes are also an issue on the lower floor. On the top floor, the ceiling is so high you could fit a lamp post in the room! This meant the air conditioning took a long time to cool the room down. Despite the drawbacks it was a very unique experience, if you are expecting a regular hotel stay this isn't the place for you, but if you are used to hostels and are staying for three days the most we do recommend!

I recently stayed at the KE-Lan-Tan Hotel, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience. The check-in process was seamless, with the staff providing warm and welcoming service that made us feel right at home. We stayed in the family room in the new wing, and I must say, it exceeded all expectations. The room was incredibly spacious, offering plenty of room for my family to relax and enjoy our stay. The cleanliness of the room was impeccable, and it was clear the hotel takes great pride in maintaining high standards. What stood out most was the hotel’s effort to preserve the historical charm of the building. The vintage switches and thoughtful design details like how they route the cabling and water features in the hotel truly brought the history of the place to life, creating a perfect blend of nostalgia and modern comfort. The owner’s attention to detail in restoring and maintaining this gem of a hotel is evident in every corner, and it’s truly inspiring to see such dedication to preserving heritage. I can’t recommend KE-Lan-Tan Hotel enough for those looking for a unique, comfortable, and memorable stay. This place is a treasure!
