Out-of-place Dessert Place in Georgetown . First of all, it's not a place that's the easiest to find. Secondly, it has a peculiar aura (dark and uneasy) especially when they bring you inside the place. There's classical opera music playing and classical paintings like Napoleon and Mona Lisa. Despite that "classy vibe" they are trying to go for, you have to order at the counter and pay immediately once they bring it to you. . The cakes are seriously ridiculously assembled. It looked like if Dr. Frankenstein were to open a cake shop, you'll get this place. . We didn't see a cake that is anything below RM34 PER SLICE. Hence it's not the usual place you can order a few to try. Which to be honest, you wouldn't want to anyway. . We got the Nutella Cheesecake. Which when arrived it looked like three saperate cakes stacked on top of each other. The top part is nothing like I've tasted before, and I've tasted many cakes in my life. I can't even pin point if it was mousse or Ganach or chocolate cake batter of any sort. It is unnecessarily dense with cheap chocolate taste (I thought I ordered Nutella?). The second layer tasted like butterscotch layer....but it isn't (I don't have words to explain, I mean not in a good way that is). The bottom layer seems like a cheesecake, but it didn't have a "set-type" cheesecake or a baked-type cheesecake texture and flavour either. . Based on the replies from the owner, they keep mentioning we are paying for quality ingredients. Can anyone tell me what brand of Chocolate used in the cakes? Because I've paid for desserts made with Varlhona at the fraction of the price charged here. And before you justify Varlhona is "cheap" chocolate, Michelin restaurants use them and if you're not even in the list of Michelin Guide, please re-think of your pricing and answer template. . Overall, bizzare and severely overpriced. We paid RM40 for it. No drinks, just plain water. The most I've ever spent in my life on a bad cake. That's like 10 Euro for a slice of "something". Perhaps they need to go out of the country (or even Penang Island) more often and try other cakes from other places. . Finally, Moody Cow. I have no idea how it relates to the place. Maybe you would look like a Cow to be paying for a place like this and come out Moody. Please love yourself and go...

TERRIBLE. OVERPRICE.

I was saw all the comments hence went to give it a try. Now looking and scrolling back all comments. Probably they are paid commentors by the cafe.

PECULIAR SHOP, UNACCEPTABLE SERVICE.

Walked into the shop first thing that we were told is to order at the counter as the menu is only there.By a waiter who was literally giving us an order instead of sharing information with us. We told the waiter that we have 4 people and he saw that we have a young toddler and told us that : You need to tell us you have a child, if not we cannot arrange the right seating for you. And you should have told us at the very beginning. It is a Thursday Afternoon and the cafe was pretty empty.

We ordered a cake and said lets the child sit down while I will make the decision on second piece of cake. The waiter insisted we order 2 cakes on the spot. Payment is required once the cakes are served. By the way , there is only 1 exit from the cafe. Not like customers have the chance to run away without paying. It is unacceptable to me. So many cafes, restaurant even mamak doesn't bother to ask you to pay for the bill until you are done. Moody Cow DOESN'T TRUST THE CUSTOMERS.

TERRIBLE CAKE.

Too much sugar and flour in the cake. Doesnt even taste like cheesecake. I rather go for Secret Recipe than this place. Even McD serves better cheesecake. Last but not least. Is way overprice. For those who have tasted cheesecake factory, this is technically a piece of cake with flour and sugar. Period.

PLEASE READ THE OTHERS NEGATIVE COMMENTS BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO GO TO...

These desserts and the sour taste they left inside my soul... I have been recently to this "cafe" full of hopes hearing its reputation in the lovely Penang Island and I couldn't have been more deluded or outraged!! A creepy, spooky and horrible environment with some sad and outdated music, it was dark but a really horror movie style dark with no light whatsoever and it was not possible to see anything. The service was inexistent and the waiters were not able to perform their duties. We ordered few cakes ( the selection of drinks was ridiculously small and unsatisfying for a place serving dessert), a nutella cake that was not tasting nutella or chocolate at all but most important thing to notice is that no member of the staff specified that was filled with bananas and we didn't like and a Ferrero rocher cake that was offensive to the "Ferrero" itself and to French and Italian culture, it was sticky, hard to swallow, dry and tasteless! The thing that most upsetted me was that the staff was not able to give any information and help with the choice, they totally forget to specify that this cakes were actually cheesecakes and not the soft, fragrants and moist dessert we were hoping for. I appreciate in general the taste of cheesecakes but that were only a barbaric imitations of them, definitely this business won't last a month in UK. Overpriced for sure in fact we paid almost 80 RMG for two slices of cakes when with this amount of money is possible to have a full meal for two in this country. Highly not recommended you will leave deluded and shocked,...

Recommend by my Penang friend must eat cake. Its a small cafe that covered by full of green plants, cactus and succulent plants. The atmosphere here can feel the relax and joyful artistic conception. Suitable to bring your girlfriend here. I do saw some people comment the staff quite rude to them, and it's true. Most of them look and talk like gangster, some of them also have tattoos. And if you think too long or make them wait, they will a bit irritable. But for me if the food is great, I don't care the price or service. All the cake here sells RM4x for each slices. I heard some customer ask what if buy a whole cake. The staff said 3 or 5 kg for whole cake. Quite shock when I heard that portion and price. But when closely each slice also quite big that can afford 2 people to eat. But I prefer 4 people to eat one slice, since all the cake flavor here is extremely!!! rich until greasy that you can't take your meal later. We bought 2 slices for 4 people and we threw quarter of it (wasted quarter also cost RM30). Sorry that our hotel don't have fridge around. They do sell coffee too, but only the normal type of coffee we known like Americano, Latte, Capuccino those. Although its taste really not bad but because of the richness, I quite hard to accept and buy again (a bit scare). It won't expensive if 4 people share 1 slices, each people only pay RM1x. Feel free or curios can go and try. Their signature is Cempedak Cheese and Salted Egg Cheese flavor cake and please be careful weekend night is always full since there not much of seats also.

While in penang thats full of delicious food and dessert , this place is definitely one of my top 10 places to go in penang . Its advisable to share although its just 1 slice of cake . The flavour is so rich like imaging "the whole fruit taste is on every bite of the cake" , if you cant imagine then go try it yourself and the cake is to be sure to make you fill satisfied. I'm always into cempedak and durian tho they have other best seller but you may go wild and adventures to choose other flavours as well , there's many other flavours there too . This is my favourite place to go for cakes and also if ever my friends see this review here " I would absolutely love my birthday cake to be from moody cow dessert cafe" 😉 Too bad for the MCO sop or else I would enjoy the ambient here and to slowly enjoy my cake and get dessert coma after . Price wise You pay for what you get for so it worth every penny you paid for. Don't mind other bad review haha they probably just don't know how to appreciate good stuff or its just my problem 🤭

Visited this place to try their highly recommended durian cakes. Not easy to find as the facade of the old shop is mostly hidden behind overgrown plants and there’s a small signage. It’s dark inside and other than the cake display counter right at the entrance, the shop is filled with potted plants big and small. The customer seating area is very limited and is located at the next shop. So you need to place your orders for the cake before they show you your seat. When I saw the price of the cake i was shocked as every piece was Rm46 ! Although each slice is one large chunk but still it cost as much as 3 large plates of ckt with large prawns ! But nonetheless we ordered the durian cake, cempedak & chocolate cake to try. It was very heavy and taste was very strong. The chocolate cake was very rich. None of us finish the cake. As I’m not a cake person, I find it overwhelming & expensive. Perhaps a cake person may appreciate more.
