Étoile Bistro at EQ — Restaurant in Kuala Lumpur

Was at breakfast at etoile and was extremely disappointed with the service. Ordered a big breakfast and also becos one of us is a vegetarian, we need another option and thought of bagel. Went to order but then saw the bagel is not plain but with something as its filling. So asked the waitress, what’s that and it’s vegetarian friendly? Her reply was “don’t know”. Told her to check and if it is confirmed safe for vegetarian then ok to proceed. Told her to heat up and need a little butter (^thought it’s the pack small butter which we usually found at the restaurant or hotel) for the spread. But instead, she proceeded with order. The bagel was left at the counter and “waving” to be served. Since no one was able to serve, I went to the counter to do “self serve”! And that’s where I found out, the bagel was not heated up or cut etc. Again, I have to request like a broken record to do heat up, cut and need a bit of butter for spread.

Now I have to wait for another 5 min on top of 10 min wasted to be heated up so that I can start my decent breakfast. Then I found out, there was a filling and asked her, she said she doesn’t know and no one knows! And the bagel was served without butter and again I have to remind for a butter. Guess what! She gave me a full chunk of butter in a saucer and literally FULL! Isn’t that such a waste or purely, the person was just tried to be difficult or simply ignorance!

Another frustrations was, she said she can’t understand “English”. So tell me what should I do if I can’t converse in local language? Extremely disappointed with service and also attitude...

A really fantastic bistro and cafe area, that annexes onto the EQ hotel.

It’s very sleek, modern and stylish and everything is pristine clean!

For guests this is a great spot to either sit and have a coffee and plan out your day; have a lounge and a chinwag with your partner; or grab an ice cold beer after a long day of business meetings or office grind.

They have an interesting western menu: naturally a good selection of coffee, they also have an all-day breakfast with a range of options, and great main courses like Australian rib eye steaks, and pan-seared barramundi!

There’s a number of salads for those looking for lighter fare; and for the burger aficionado’s, they have their stunning Angus Burger (which also comes in a Beyond Meat variety for the vegetarians) as well as an amazing new fried chicken burger, which I had to have for lunch - this was superb, huge juicy fried chicken on a toasted brioche bun with lettuce, tomato, cheese and mayo; it came with a side of fries and a seriously tasty sriracha sauce.

My business partner and I returned in the early evening after our meetings were done and sampled the craft beers here also. Having just returned from Japan it was great to see a Kyoto Brewing beer on their menu (and one I hadn’t tried before) - The White Yuzu Ale.

You won’t need to be a guest at the hotel to visit here, and you can access outside of the main hotel lobby. If you’re wandering by and looking for “coffee near me” or “burger near me”, this should be...
