Extremely disorganised. When we booked, they request that we pre order as it is near CNY, fair enough. Took them another day to send us menu. We proceeded to pre order over Whatsapp as they suggested. First person liaising with us said the full ala carte menu is available. After finalising our order, they didn’t respond until the next day, and they asked if we are confirmed for our booking at night. We said yes, and in fact we sent in our order list to the Whatsapp number as requested. This time the manager or supervisor (not sure, but both are chaotic and kinda useless), said that they did not receive our order, only to call us back on the same phone number and said, “Oh you use two different numbers, so I had to search for your other number in our system.” We only used one number, but they were the ones that started messaging us with a different number from two days ago.
So, ala carte menu supposedly available right? But no. 3 of our items that we wanted to order are not available because it’s CNY time. So only can order from a limited CNY menu. Anyway, whatever, we cut down our order from 7 items to 5.
Upon arriving, we were not served for at least 20mins. Finally when we told them that they can serve the dishes, the waitress said, “You haven’t order anything…” So we explained, yes we did, through the damn bloody Whatsapp as requested by your Manager or Supervisor. So she went to look for it, and found it. Came back and said, “Oh a few items from your order is not available.” Frustrations started to grow even more… We again explained, we messaged the UPDATED 5 items to the Whatsapp number, and then no one replied so we assume it was done! So, okay we had to again cut down the 7 items to 5, but actually they kinda mixed our unavailable items with the new items, so now we had many items?! Yes very confusing. So finally cut down to the 5 items, one of which is Lap Mei Fan. She walked away and returned 5 mins later to tell us, “Lap Mei Fan is out of stock!” Seriously? At this point we almost walked out. Finally we had to order dishes that we weren’t keen on, just so we would have enough food.
However, the Dragon Seabass that we ordered for 6 pax, came in a 300g steak cut. We called the waitress who took our order back to show her and asked, “The fish… SO BIG AH?” She said, “The chef must have missed read my order chit. I wrote 3 pieces of the 300g steak cut. Ok at the point it was 9:45pm. We asked, “Ok can you serve the other two pieces now please?” She checked with kitchen and said no because kitchen closed already. We sat down at 8:30pm. We booked for 8:30pm. They said better to pre order. We did exactly what they advised us to, but in the end, they seriously are on another level of screw ups.
They gave us two free desserts to compensate. It was quite an experience.
When I arrived and said, “Booking under Miss Loh,” the Manager/Supervisor had a difficult time finding the booking. To which he replied after he located the name, “Oooh Miss Loh.” Emphasised the pronunciation of Loh, as if I pronounced Loh very very differently from how he thinks it’s...
Read moreMade my reservation for 8pax two weeks ago, the staff was attentive and helpful with the menu selection and new promotions. BUT...
On our lunch day, we opted for the Pear & Salmon Yee Sang, the staff didn't say wishes like how other restaurants normally do, it's okay, but the salmon was not fresh. Anyway, leave it aside for now. The rest of the dishes were fine, we had good time eating and chatting away. Only when came to ordering dessert, staffs were not attentive enough, from getting the menu to long waiting time for the dessert to be served, despite us request to check the status several times (the restaurant wasn't even busy, there were only 3-4 tables in total). We were patiently waiting till the staff (probably the manager) came over to check if every dishes are out, so that we can settle the bill, probably due to its almost their break time. Finally manage to speak with someone who's easier to communicate with (because the rest of the staffs are not local, and each time we ask something, the only thing they answered is "we will check for you" but never return with updates), then only the last dessert came after a little while more, all in all waited half an hour for the last dessert (hasma with red date). While my guest having her dessert, I requested for the bill, found out they have charged extra for the titbits, so they went to rectify it and it took awhile. I also received the voucher for my b1f1 yeesang, remembered on the broshure it says similar or lower value for the free yeesang on next visit, but they have ticked the same one I ordered today. As I have mentioned earlier, the salmon was not fresh, and I also didn't quite like it as a whole, so I asked the staff for confirmation, if I can opt for lower value yeesang for my next visit when utilising the voucher (since they have ticked). As expected, the staff gave the exact same answer "we will check for you", but due to several unfavorable experience waiting for response, I asked for the manage for this confirmation. The same manager came over and asked if I'm clear with the voucher already, I said no, nobody manage to explain. So I asked her, and she said "we normally give the same yeesang on second visit", I showed her the picture of broshure I snapped but she seems to not understand the condition of "similar or lower value" by keep telling me "we normally give the same yeesang". Looking at the voucher (I forgot the price is stated in the broshure), I actually asked what's the price of each type of yeesang, she (Mandy) managed to tell, and then when I asked can I order the Salmon Yeesang or the Jelly Fish Yeesang (with lower value) next time? She said yes, you can.
Enough said, you may judge the level of understanding/informative of the staff/manager. Really hope it can be improved. I work nearby and often have lunch appointments, I wonder if I would give this restaurant another try next time.
Sadly it was a bad experience for me and it totally killed my mood...
Read moreFirst off, this is a review on their take away and not their dine-in.
With roots dating back to the early 1980’s comes a highly rated Chinese restaurant by foodies & critiques alike. But are they able to maintain that level of standard in a take-away box?
Service: We placed the order via a third party app which was pretty straight forward.
Packaging: Nothing much to rave about with ordinary take away boxes.
Mango Prawn Roll (RM 11.80)
Taste: Striking a perfect balance of sweet & savoury, the prawn rolls were coated in a crispy, light & crunchy pastry. Securing the bright yellow, egg yolk look alike, warm & slightly sweet mango filling within, giving the fresh crunchy prawns a gentle mango bath though was a little over powering, masking the flavour of the prawns.
Price: Reasonable
Stir Fried Radish Cake (RM 10.80)
Taste: The radish cake were evenly sliced pieces & fried to a beautiful golden brown, slightly charred on the edges giving it a touch of crispy. Accompanied by a down pour of beansprouts & spring onions with a drizzle of turnips completing the meal.
Price: Reasonable
Lor Mai Kai (RM 9.80)
Taste: The meat was slightly hard along the edges probably a result of aging in the take away box. The meat however was a saving grace as it was very tender & fragrant off-setting the downfalls of the glutinous rice.
Price: Reasonable
Bacon Roll (RM 8.80)
Taste: If looks could be deceiving, it sure was here. Given the dish was swimming in Thai sweet chilli, we expected an overwhelmingly sweet dish. However, the meat was tender & juicy especially the streaky bacon giving a slightly smoky flavour which off set the sweetness of the entire dish. Quite a surprising but a pleasant surprise.
Price: Reasonable
Recommended? Dim sum is a delicate dish with the potential to go quite wrong not aging well in a takeaway box. However, Marco Polo has managed to sustain the quality of these dim sum despite the potential delivery horrors
