It was OKAY though did not tickle my palate like how others raved about it. Staff were friendly but could be more well trained. A waitress made a mistake on my order of “add on salmon sashimi” for lunch set (The order was made later on, after we finished both our lunch sets). They served the “sashimi lunch set” instead and I told them I ordered the add on sashimi TO the lunch set NOT the whole set. The waitress left us the plate of sashimi and took away the rice and soup etc. When the bill came, I was confused because I saw a RM28 for sashimi lunch set, minus RM28 for cancellation then add back RM28 for the sashimi slices. After asking the staff told me there are only 3 slices for the add on sashimi but because I had 5 slices (which they served me), I was charged the normal ala carte price instead of the add on price. I was speechless. I mean, I don’t mind paying a bit extra but really, they could have handled this more professionally because first off, the staff took my order wrongly and she placed the 5 slices sashimi on the table for us after I told her I wanted the add on (obviously I wouldn’t know the add on only has 3 slices of sashimi), then charged us the full price which turns out to be the same price as the lunch set that she served wrongly. I wonder why didn’t she give us a new plate of sashimi in 3 slices or at least ask if we would like to have the 5 slices sashimi at ala carte price. Like I said, this definitely could be handled more professionally. Having said that, the sashimi was fresh...
Read moreI visited this Izakaya based on positive reviews and an appealing menu featuring photos. However, my experience left me with mixed feelings: this will likely be a one-time visit for us as the meal included both disappointing and mediocre dishes.
The tomatoes were average, lacking in flavor. I had hoped for sweet, juicy Japanese tomatoes, but unfortunately, these did not meet my expectations.
The nigiri and sashimi were subpar. Despite that in reviews, written it was fresh, I am confident that frozen ingredients were used. The Bluefin tuna Chutoro had an odd color and texture, devoid of the expected tuna flavor, indicating a low-quality product (thankfully, this was removed from our bill).
The eel nigiri was similarly disappointing, with a thick layer of skin, bones, and a muddy taste. Even after removing the undesirable parts, the eel slice was exceptionally thin.
The tobiko nigiri failed to impress as well; the eggs lacked juiciness, there was an excess of rice, and the nori seaweed was tough to chew.
However, there were some highlights. The soft shell crab was decent, with a crisp, lightly breaded exterior and pleasant flavor. Additionally, the grilled shrimp and the "dancing shrimp" stood out as flavorful and enjoyable, representing the best dishes of the evening.
The service was unobtrusive, but plate clearing was slow. Overall, the experience left a negative impression. If you choose to dine here, opt for dishes that have undergone heat treatment to be...
Read moreTsukiji No 8 is one of my go-to sushi spots in KL, def underrated i never see anyone talking or posting about it but they serve authentic Japanese dishes, i always see a lot of japanese people eating there which is a good sign, and have a huge selection of fresh seafood sourced directly from Japan.
We always get the volcano potato salad, it has this perfectly runny eff with ebi roe & mixed together its a deliciously sweet and savory combination.
Their Uni Chawanmushi (RM28) has a slight umami flavor, i love steamed egg its a comforting, simple i could probably eat it every
Salmon is my facorite fish and their quality is top tier. The Salmon Zukushi (RM58) which had salmon sashimi, salmon belly, salmon sushi and salmon maki.
Wagyu Foie Gras Don (RM88). A tender Wagyu paired with pan seared foie gras served over Japanese steamed rice. It was tender, sweet and juicy. One of my favorites and I definitely recommend this dish.
Another signature, their Wagyu Don with Onsen Tamago (RM48). The Wagyu is thinly sliced and it mixed so well with the silky Onsen egg with spring onions. Ikano Shiokara Marinated Salty Raw Squid (RM14.8). This had such a distinctive taste and it was chewy but I found it too salty for my liking.
I honestly enjoyed the food here as it is authentic, simple and fresh. It’s also a great spot for a casual date and ensures you will leave...
