Hong Ngek Restaurant is an old traditional Chinese Hokkien restaurant.
The restaurant occupied a two-storey shop lot, likely to be a pre-war one. We took our seats on the first floor which was air conditioned.
We ordered:
• Fried glass noodle (dong fun) • Fried pak guo (a Hokkien carbo dish) • Braised Pig Trotter • Hai chou (Crab meatball) • Fried fish slices with spring onion (keong choong yee pin) • Fried sweet potato leaves
The crab meatball was delectable with the taste clearly augmented by the five spice powder added to it. The fried fish slices with spring onion was just so so. The fried glass noodle and fried pak guo (a Hokkien dish) were both decent but taste-wise, I would lean towards fried glass noodle. The letdown was the fried sweet potato leaves which tasted so bland.
Total cost came to RM243.80 for the eight of us...
