Since I was around the vicinity after my physiotherapy, I decided to drop by Kafe Kleptokrat, the most Instagramable place at Little India, for a quick dinner.
The place was a quite colonial and quaint I almost missed it from the outside while walking past by twice and had to reverse and check my map whether it was the right location.
I was as if being transported to the '70s era which I find it very nostalgic and captivating the moment I stepped in. I noticed the staffs don't speak English well when I asked them for their menu recommendations; they had to refer to their young Indian Male Supervisor, to communicate with me. The Indian Female Cashier asked me where I wanted to sit so I said, "Just for 1 person, anywhere would be fine." I was told to choose my meal and Pay at the Cashier First before taking my seat. 🤔 There were Only 4 tables occupied so I was wondering why the payment first. 🤔🤔 I ordered "Lontong Ayam Salai" RM 26 + 10% + 6% = RM 30.15 and paid RM 50. Without checking the balance, I took my seat.
Appreciating the unique, quaint ambience with an open roof top, 2 playground swings and a small but clean swimming pool, well arranged mis-en-place, an old bicycle 🚲 and a soothing piped-in '70s music 🎶, my "Lontong Ayam Salai" arrived. It's been a long time I've seen such beautiful and colourful 🌈 meal 🍛 being served to me by a Chef who's very passionate and dedicated to his job!👏🏻👍🏻 The meal was not only pleasing to the eyes,👁️👁️ it tasted so Good!👍🏻 Yummy!!🤤 The Lontong sauce was just right, the sambal Sedap not too spicy, the rice cake was soft, the long 🫛🫛 so crunchy and the portion just Ngam!! 😋👍🏻👍🏼👍🏿 Highly recommended!
Only setback, the staffs weren't attentive enough when the customers wanted something. They were basically crowding around the Cashier counter chatting and their approach especially the young Indian Male Supervisor was very hostile. He kept on pointing and instructing the staffs to serve while he folded his arms.
Done with my meal, I counted my balance. I was short-changed by 5 sen. Went back to the Cashier and showed her what I've got. Without any apology, she said, "Oh! Short ahh? Hmm wait ahh.." and returned with her coin pouch, 5 sen! And she walked off!! 😳🤯 Was that deliberate, intentional or what?? For that, I would rate it 4/10!

Read moreThe interior set up is very cosy and great environment to have meals. Especially with the pool in the middle of the restaurant made it more relaxing and calm for patrons.
Dira who was very courteous, friendly and big smiles, speaks English and Malay languages converse perfectly with us. We were welcomed by her and she took note of when I mentioned my mom is unwell and can walk on stairs. She gave us few table options to choose from and sat us down happily. She mentioned she loves her job and work hard for it, this is a great attitude right there. Cherish her as she can expand the business for the company in future. There are two more chinese elders, very friendly as well and understanding. Didn't get their names but they are very courteous when we left. Customer service is great and we shall be back again.
Smoked beef spag was good in quantity and the spiciness was top notch. For those who are unable to eat chilli hot, might want to let the cashier know, less spicy option. We also ordered Masak Chilli Api Smoked Beef and Fried Chicken rice bowl, portions were good quantity and side spices were great.
Beef was quite tough today and the waitress gave us a bit more of beef which was ended the same toughness as well. It can means it is either freshly made everyday or beef was from the tough side from the cow.
Ondeh ondeh Ice Cream, great portion and loved where they added nuts in to make it crunchy. Ondeh ondeh the skin was thick, not my liking and the insert was juicy, lack of taste I would say.
Sago Melaka, might need a bit more of sauce and santan juice cause the ice cream is quite bland to eat with. Loved the combination of red beans and sago together.
Not advisable for younger children as there are no children's menu so food options are limited. Be mindful of steps etc of children's safety, as lack of barriers so can easily fall into the pool.
Otherwise, its great atmosphere restaurant, recommend...
Read moreWe visited this store on 1/1. The store opens at 11 AM, and we arrived at 1 PM. After queuing for an hour, we were finally seated at 2 PM.
Once seated, no instructions were provided—no table number, no guidance on how to order. We had to go to the counter ourselves, where we were told to grab the menu, order at the counter, and pay upfront.
Ten minutes after paying, we were informed that 3 out of 4 of our Lontong orders—Lontong Vegan, Lontong Chicken Rendang, and Lontong Beef Rendang—were unavailable. Instead, we were told to switch to Nasi Lemak with Vegan, Chicken, or Beef options, but only if the price matched. When we asked to pay extra to choose other dishes, we were rejected and forced to accept these substitutions.
Another 10 minutes later, we were informed that the remaining Lontong Daging Salai was also unavailable. By this time, we were frustrated and questioned why the cashier didn’t inform us of these issues when placing the order. To handle the situation, they sent a manager from the hostel upstairs, who finally allowed us to change the last unavailable Lontong to any dish we wanted. While this was appreciated, it was too little too late, as most of our experience had already been ruined.
To make matters worse, we ordered two “milk tea ice cube” drinks at RM15 each. There was absolutely no tea taste—just milk. I paid RM15 for a milk tea but got pure milk instead. It was a complete letdown.
TLDR: • Ask the cashier what’s actually available before placing your order. Otherwise, you’ll be stuck choosing replacement dishes they decide for you. • Food quality was disappointing and not worth the trouble. • Avoid the milk tea—it’s overpriced and doesn’t even taste like tea.
Would not...
