Loved the alfresco sitting outside the cafe, it’s drizzling a bit so that makes it all nice. I googled for breakfast near me and this caught my eye, it’s a Muslim owned Japanese restaurant serving breakfast which isn’t easy to come by in KL, opens at 730am which is icing on top! Like literally..
So wanted to try the St Mary’s big breakfast because of the different potato fritter instead of your normal hash brown as well as the Shibuya french toast. As it turns out I probably expected too much. The scrambled eggs could be improved a bit because it was exactly like my sons scrambled eggs at home 😊 for the price you can probably try to add in fresh milk or just milk or cream, scramble it a bit and let it sit, don’t let the pan leave burns on it 😊. It’ll give you a fresh scrambled egg vibe, less dry and probably throw in some fresh parsley. There was only one slice of thin bread which was drenched with melted butter. Think my kids would’ve liked the homemade sausages while the potato fritter maybe can add a bit of seasoning. The French toast was ok, loved the homemade sauce that came with it which balanced the plain toast, quite perfect combo, not too sweet. Drinks were normal.
I’d come back for the ambiance outside...

There's not much to differentiate Middle Lane from the other very similar coffee and brunch cafe type stores in KL. The food is pretty okay and is about RM30 a plate. Which is about the average price. Everything is well cooked but if you're a frequent cafe hopper you'll find it a bit unmemorable. The coffee as well while they use great beans I think there's an issue with extraction or the milk used? It turned out very watery.
As a side note they shouldn't serve their food on this greaseproof paper. Because once the paper gets wet bits of it just end up getting broken up and stirred into your food :/.
Parking if there's street parking available it's quite okay. If not you're able to park in the building. Overall an alright place if you're in the area but I wouldn't go out of my...
Read moreThis is why restaurant experiences are getting worse: Outside seats have no menus. Staff don't come out to give menus - you have to go inside & get the menu yourself. Staff don't come out to take orders - you have to go inside (again) to order at the counter. The menu has many items that aren't available but are not crossed off the menu - so you have to go out & back in again for the 3rd time to ask the rest of your party what alternatives they want. You finally get in your order, to find out they don't take cash (there is a tiny sign on the door.
If you don't trust your staff to handle cash, get new staff. You need more staff anyway, to serve the customers outside (including us there were 6 outside & only 2 inside) and to clean the outside area occasionally - it's very dirty. We ended up going elsewhere - not accepting cash is just...
