Read moreSkyBar is a bar inside the Traders Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, with spectacular views of the Petronas Towers. This view, especially at night, is fantastic.
The 2nd star is purely due to the views of the park, surrounding hotels, light show in the pond (in the park) and of course the Petronas Towers. SkyBar itself would get 1 star.
We came during off season, there were not a lot of guests, but a good amount of service staff.
Ambiance: I am not sure how to describe it. There's an odd mix of tourists, many of which just want pics with the towers and spend most of their time taking pictures/selfies and business people (there's a conference center in the hotel). The pool in the middle looks pretty with the lights on, but it isn't set up to invite you to swim. Yes you CAN swim, but nobody does. There's the feel of being at an indoor pool tho. Humid with a weird smell of chemicals and chlorine. One side is lined with cabana-inspired benches, right by the windows. Here you'll get the best view of the towers. The other side has high tops, way to close together. You can hardly pull out a chair without bumping in to a chair from another table.
Service: The first night, we walked in and where immediately shuffled to the high top area by the bar. The "cabanas" where about 1/3 occupied but all open tables had a "reserved" sign on them. We ordered drinks and some food. After the second round of drinks was brought to us, we were informed that from now on we'd have to go to the bar to order. There would be no more table-side service. Apparently it only applied to us (ordering at the bar), as tables around us still had a waiter come by. Strange.
On the way out we asked the hostess about getting a cabana and since we stayed at the hotel, were able to reserve one for the next day. When we arrived the next day we were again shuffled to the high-tops. We explained we have reservations for the cabana and eventually were brought back to the hostess desk to get the table we asked for. Service at the cabana was better, but still spotty. We would order, but nothing arrived. This happened several times. We probably would have consumed more, if we actually received what we ordered.
I'd say go for the view, but have low expectations...
Read moreThe view is undeniably the highlight of this place. Unfortunately, it’s the only redeeming factor. Without it, I wouldn’t have chosen this bar, especially when there are other options that offer not just great views but also better service.
From the moment we arrived, the experience was disappointing. The staff repeatedly requested us to settle the bill, which made us feel like we were being rushed to leave. A security guard also approached us and asked us to remove our cameras from the windowsill. While we understood the reasoning, his tone was unnecessarily harsh and rude. A polite request would have sufficed.
What stood out most was the lack of clear communication and courtesy. We took window seats to photograph the view, as no one directed us otherwise. Yet, a senior staff member questioned why we were there, despite it being evident that we were just taking photos. The worst experience came from a particular waitress. After serving my friend’s drink, she questioned another staff member in Malay about how we managed to get the window seats—unaware that we could understand her.
As we were leaving, she informed us we were required to spend RM100 for sitting at the window seats. This policy was never communicated to us at the beginning of our visit, which left us feeling blindsided and unwelcome. We settled only the existing bill and left.
I’ve also come across other reviews mentioning racism, and while I cannot confirm this, my experience with that particular waitress makes me inclined to believe it might be an issue here.
If you’re looking for a bar with great views and genuinely welcoming service, I would recommend skipping this skybar. There are far better alternatives where you’ll feel...
