Their nyonya kuehs here are truly the real deal, but the cooked food is just so-so.
We had the following: • Yam Cake: This was nice, the proportion of yam used was really high. This, however, made the texture a bit too hard and firm for my liking. • Kueh Ubi: This was really good, it was soft and very fragrant. • Seri Muka: I liked this a lot too, I could really taste the pandan fragrance in the kaya layer and I enjoyed the slight saltiness of the glutinous rice layer, though it was a bit too hard. • Kaya Butter Toast: Good toast with delicious kaya. We wanted to buy a bottle back but they were out of stock. • Nasi Lemak with Rendang Chicken: Average, nothing fantastic. • Mee Siam: I didn't like this that much, it wasn't very tasty and not worth the price as it didn't come with much ingredients. • Ondeh Ondeh Cake: Not bad, it wasn't too sweet and the gula melaka taste was very prominent in the layers of filling. However, I do think it would taste nicer if both the cake and filling layers were a bit moister.
Overall, I wouldn't be back for a meal, but definitely for a coffee break. Do drop by to try out their kuehs, as they are pretty good! Note that it's best to come in the morning to avoid the queue and ensure that you can get your hands on their food, we previous came at around 1.45pm on a weekend and they were...
Read moreWe visited Nyonya Secrets for lunch today and arrived around 2 PM. Upon arrival, a waitress informed us that most of the food had run out, leaving only Mee Siam and toast bread. Although Mee Siam isn’t our favorite, we had no choice but to order it, along with kaya butter toast and cendol.
While all the dishes were good and the cendol was enjoyable, we were quite disappointed to later find out that other customers, who arrived after us, were told by a different waitress that Laksa Mee, Kuey Teow, and Bihun were also available. When we brought this up while making payment, our waitress explained that she had been informed by the kitchen at the time that only Mee Siam was left.
This inconsistency in communication was frustrating, as we would have preferred to order something else if given the correct information. We may look like tourists, but we are locals and can return anytime. We hope this does not happen again in the future—there should be no double standards. Please ensure better coordination between the kitchen and service staff so that all customers receive accurate...
Read moreWent once when they just opened years ago, food that time was very mediocre, glad to find out that they have since improved!
Nasi lemak with rendang chicken was good, the rice was fragrant but not too lemak, rendang very good! Rempah is fragrant, with hints of santan, but not spicy.
Meesiam lacked a little, the gravy wasn't appetisingly sour (prolly not enough tamarind), nor was it sweet enough. But portion is quite big, would be better if the fishcakes and taukua given is more.
Cendol, not bad, gula melaka not artificial sweet, but we prefer it to be more caramelised aka fragrant. Cendol jelly and red bean ratio could be more as compare to the ice. It's great that they provide free flow gula melaka for customers to add at their free will.
Hainanese coffee is pekat, not overly sweet. Good.
Enviroment wise not bad, but it can be packed especially peak hours. Pricing could be slightly higher but given it's location and is a cafe,...
