Had the chance to dine here for buka puasa in March 2025. Made reservation a day earlier and paid before 5pm on actual day as per the cafe’s T&Cs. Arrived around 6.45pm and was directed to our table. A cozy corner for the five of us but with shaky wooden floors. Everytime a person walks by or a staff runs serving food, we could feel our table & chairs move as well. Saw food & drinks coming out and served to several tables including ours. Almost time for Iftar, on our table was dates, watermelon & kuih muih plus drinks. As compared to other tables, we could see their main course was already served but ours was nowhere to be seen. Pity our kids since they had to wait for the food while we looked at other customers munching away. Asked the waiter/server where’s our food? And were told that she will check on it. Ten minutes in after the Maghrib azan, still no food. Kids started asking coz they were hungry. Had to immediately called the server again & asked why is our order not on the table? Waited for another five minutes and only then the food came. Yes, I totally understand that it was Ramadhan & everyone was fasting. But the staff could have just informed me that the food will take a while to be served/prepared, or there may be a delay for the main course to be served….but nothing! After I almost went mad & raised my voice, then a staff came and apologized while bringing food to our table. Not sure what their problem was coz no one explained anything to us. No doubt, the food was delicious but the lack of communication and poor service by the staffs could have been handled better by them. We were the last ones to leave for the Iftar session since we were the last to receive our order. Any chance of dining here, this specific branch again? Maybe we’ll think twice before deciding…
Added on 3/6/2025: Not sure if my review was properly read until the finish or not. But the reply from the owner looks like a copy-paste template reply. You need to work on proper communication with customers as well as improve service. Only the food met my expectation, the rest…NO! The sad part was…we were a small family with kids (13 yo, 8 yo & 1yr 8mth baby). We thought tables with kids would get food earlier but no(?). I’ve been to other eateries where the staffs were super friendly and explained in detail if our food would be served late & staffs took initiative to come over to our table if the kids looked hungry or could no longer wait...
Read moreRecently the Gula Cakery Tiramisu went viral.
I’ve been going to Gula Cakery from the start even before they had a cafe at Kota Kemuning.
The food is a hit and miss. But for Malaiqa, i particularly went here to get the tiramisu which I thought I dont have to queue as compared to KL’s branch. Queue for 40 mins just to get a tiramisu in sweat. Well cant blame them cause it’s my choice.
But I feel they purposely made us queue for the hype - marketing purposes. Longer line , makes more people wanna buy.
They restock at 11am, 4pm and 8pm. No limit per person.
They could have given a number , and take the customers order If people queued than the supply, they queue 1 hour for nothing 😅😅😅😅 They restock only 30 tiramisu/ session They had the audacity to say, we cant control the crowd and how many they want to purchase. Well it’s just a marketing gimmick to make people want to purchase it. Tbh, i’d feel bad if the customers queued for 1 hour but didnt get to buy a tiramisu especially if they come far from Melaka. Maybe Johor?
Whatever it is, i think i’ve had their tiramisu before this. It’s good but ok la. Taste like tiramisu. A tad sweet, the coffee taste is there unlike some other brands cant taste the coffee.
I also bought my fav dessert from them pavlova, sedap but a tad too sweet.
One of my other fav dessert from them is nutella cheesetart.
Overall. I just dont like brands that make ppl queue when they can just make people not wait to purchase something. Stop with the marketing...
Read moreHonestly after a large lunch at Waree Thai Kitchen, and a stop for nyonya pineapple tarts, I didn't need to eat anything else. But everyone shared they came to Malacca for the food, so when I passed by and saw the delicious cakes in the window, I decided to stop in and lucky for me I did. A very cute cafe nicely decorated in bright green shades immediately felt like a fun experience. With so many delicious cakes on display my only hope to narrow down my choices was to ask for recommendations. I asked a couple of the friendly handsome waiters and received two different "must try" recommendations. As they were quite different from each other...I gave in and got one slice of each. The raspberry pistachio cake had fresh light creamy frosting, with a touch of fruit on top of a moist natural nutty grain sponge, and was delicate enough that you could enjoy the pistachio flavor. For me the main event was the Double Chocolate Nutella cake slice - even if you love dark chocolate, or if you readily eat Nutella straight from the jar with a spoon - this is a combined cake experience not to be missed. Each bite was the best of dark chocolate in the foreground and creamy hazelnut finish. I paired my slices with a nice long black coffee which was just the right amount of acid to compete with the desserts. This is on my list for my next...
