If you're looking for a fun and casual dining experience with a unique menu selection, look no further than BABA KAYA. This hidden gem offers indulgent coffee and delicious food, all while enjoying the serene beauty of the river banks. It's an exceptionally different vibe and experience that sets it apart from other cafes in town. The menu at BABA KAYA is a delightful surprise. They have curated a selection of dishes that are unlike anything the other cafes would offer up. Not only is the food exceptional, but the coffee at BABA KAYA "Durian luwak coffee" is a true highlight. You can expect expertly brewed coffee that is rich and aromatic, perfectly complementing the flavors of the food. They also offer a variety of specialty drinks and teas for those looking for something different. What truly sets BABA KAYA apart, though, is its location by the river banks. As you indulge in your coffee and food, you are treated to a mesmerizing view of the river flowing peacefully. The ambiance is serene and relaxing, creating a truly unique and enjoyable dining experience. In conclusion, BABA KAYA is a must-visit for anyone in search of a fun and casual dining experience with a unique menu selection. Enjoying good coffee and food by the river banks is an exceptionally different vibe and experience that you won't find in other cafes in town. I highly recommend a visit to BABA KAYA for a memorable and delightful dining experience.

😋The first stop to have breakfast at Restaurant Baba Kaya when we reached Melaka at 9.30am. The crowd is overwhelmed! After 10 minutes of waiting time, finally we get a nice round table indoor seat. We can try varieties of Authentic Malaysian cuisines at Restaurant Baba Kaya. Some of the signatures are Signature Nyonya Curry Laksa, Homemade Roti Jala, and Baba Kaya Signature Toast (Homemade tri-colours Nyonya kaya dip served with Toasts w/butter & sprinkles of cinnamon).👏 We also add Boiled Eggs, Morning Sunshine ( Normal Toast and Soft Boiled Eggs) and Roti Canai. Just ring the bell! 🔔 And my Apam Balik is ready. Having fun with the hanging basket to get my Apam Balik freshly made. I tried two types of Apam Balik:- Apam Balik Original Apam Balik Chocolate Banana 😍Local Nanyang Coffee, Milo-50's and Cham drink is a must too! Service is attentive, friendly and feels like home. 🤩The food is nostalgic and we enjoy the dining atmosphere. Calm, relaxing and enjoy the restaurant vibes here especially the outdoor seats along the riverside with a stunning view of Malacca.

Please read the conversation between me and the staff in the first picture. Me : Hi, for 2 pax. Staff : *Looks inside and look back at us* It's full. Me : So how long do we have to wait? Staff : Donno. Maybe whole day. Me : Err, so what is the estimation? Staff : 1 hour like that. Me : So where do we wait? Staff : You can wait inside. It was pouring heavily, so we entered the shop and there were other customers waiting in front of the cashier as well. Luckily, I saw another staff taking names then I proceeded to list down my name. Me : So where should we wait instead? Outside at the chairs? Staff 2 : Yeah supposedly you are supposed to wait there. I am not sure what's wrong with the first staff, is he high? Is he tired of working? Is he just a rude person in general? Please keep in mind when he answered our questions, it was as if he was playing around and jokingly like we are his friends. I don't understand his work ethic. And why he doesn't inform us that we have to write down our name and wait outside? There's so many questions inside my head at that point. And the funny part is we got a table after 10 minutes of waiting, because there were only 2 names before us. We were seated upstairs, the service upstairs was good. So here's my comments for the foods and beverages. A lot of the food sold out. Leaving us with the option of Nasi Lemak and Mee Curry. Okay... understandable it's the weekend crowd. But come on, with thousands of reviews aren't you supposed to be prepare for the oncoming crowd? I ordered the Nasi Lemak instead. Food was good but my chicken was very cold. I don't understand what happened. Did you even cook it? Did you leave it out for a very long time? And then, here comes the famous Apam Balik. More like Hangit Apam Balik. I understand the sentiment that they are trying to tell people about selling Apam Balik the traditional way, but how about sell a decent traditional Apam Balik first. Next, stated on the menu is Ice Milo with their own recipe. But all I got was a small cup of bland Milo like Milo O Kosong. For some reason it was watery as hell. Overall? This place is just one of those place that are overhyped on the Internet and for tourist, because international tourist can't differentiate between a good local food and a bad one. Would I come again? No. Would I recommend to others? No. I have seen the owner replies in the Google Reviews. I understand how hard it is to run a business, especially F&B. But I have been working in F&B for many years as well, and I can assure you this is not the kind of service you should run. Service was totally out because of the first staff. Then it was just a snowball of disasters and frustrations. PS: Before the owner comes to me, I did told one of your staff that the food was cold. The Apam? Well he can see it for himself that it was hangit.

Gave an overall 3 star based on my personal experience. This is another popular touristy restaurant where food quality doesn’t stay on par with the price point and environment. Be prepared to queue under hot sun as there’s just not enough shaded spots for the crowd, good thing as for small pax the queue move quite soon. We came as in a pax of 3 and only waited ~15mins around 11am. Service was actually well, especially when we requested to change the drumstick to chicken breast. The staff was quick to understand and convey the request to the kitchen. Nasi Lemak Twin Tower with Chicken Rendang & Otak. So the rice is actually not as fragrant as your usual nasi lemak, there’s no aroma from the rice itself. The presentation is nice but more of a gimmick. Funnily enough both nasi lemak actually comes with different side dish, where the Rendang version got papadum keropok but not the Otak version. The Rendang is nice but no the Otak, the seasoning is just off. Also, no ikan bilis? Roti Jala with Chicken Curry, I seriously cannot justify paying that price and you only get a tiny piece of chicken and lacklustre curry. The curry itself is rather bland and watery, which in a way spoil the whole experience of this dish. Signature toast is just generic and nothing special. So does the Cham Bing(coffee & tea), just watery and average. The dining experience itself is actually alright if you get there early, enjoying the morning breeze along the river. But you dine a little bit later, you get the sense of urgency to leave once you’re done as the crowd is just packed!

First impression- The vibes and atmosphere is chill, with someone taking queue number to get seated. Overall waiting time was less than 5 minutes After seated- The place is pretty hot, they placed ceiling fans on corners but it seemed like the fans are mostly to blow wind on the plants and flooring instead of pointed to the guest tables. Sat for 20+ mins yet the table was still empty, not even drinks or toast and could literally see all the service staff lounging around the kitchen counter cracking jokes and eating toast they made for themselves. The food overall is also mediocre and certainly does not live up to the hype. Curry laksa- looked like dry laksa with less broth, taste is “meh”, could find something better at places like Ah Ma Holiao Nasi Lemak Twin Towers- these kind of nasi lemak is one of the reasons why those street stalls will still be the best kind there is. It’s just plain and boring here. Toast- super small serving, almost thought it’s baby food with no kaya/butter taste at all. As for the drinks, I’d be better off buying canned Nescafé due to the instant powdery taste. Highly do NOT recommend unless the boss does something about her staff lounging around and eating in front of customers. Add: just went through some other reviews and the owner seems to have an attitude and high ego, giving nonsensical excuses and blaming customers for things that should have been under control

Baba Kaya Signature 🍞 (RM6) Crunchy buttered toast with cinnamon sprinkle and tri-colour homemade kaya. Honestly, we felt that the sweetness has overpowered the kaya fragrance, and the cinnamon flavour could be enhanced; nevertheless, still a nice light bite 🙌 Nasi Lemak with Rendang Chicken 🍗 (RM16.80) Sambal was really spicy but bearable 🔥 Acar had a good amount of acidity which goes well with the fluffy, vibrant rice; there's also no gamey taste from the chicken. Nyonya Laksa 🍜⭐️ (RM16.80) - vegan option available Bihun or yellow noodles drenched in a bed of rich and creamy broth 😋 add in some sambal for a fiery kick! Sakura Rose 🌹 (RM10) One of their newest drinks - made up of 3 layers which consisted of rose essence, fresh milk, and gula melaka. Note that the drink can get super sweet ⚠️ Iced Latte ☕️ (RM13) Not bad but tad bit pricey. They have a fascinating way of serving apom balik where you can put some money into the basket and have it delivered from the second floor of the cafe. Although having both hits and misses during our visit, this peranakan cafe is somewhere you could consider dropping by for a meal while overlooking the clean river view! 🚤 On the bright side, they do open on public holidays too, so you don't have to worry about missing out during the holidays! 🤩 Would suggest come right before lunch hours as it will be extremely crowded.
