Best Pizza Outside Italy
I spend a month in Italy every year. I've had friends there for over 40 years. So, I'm extremely picky when it comes to Italian food and pizza. In fact, i usually avoid it because I'm constantly disappointed.
The reviews were outstanding for il Forno, so I decided to give it a try. I was overwhelmed with the quality and tastes. I started with a side order of sauteed spinach. It's a common winter dish in Northern Italy.
Perfectly seasoned and just enough for a couple to share if one of two or three appetizers.
Next I ordered the Pizza New York, which is a Margarita (cheese and mozzarella) and basil. It's a favorite in both New York City and Italy. None of the overburdened pizza one gets in the rest of the USA for me.
The waiter came by a few minutes later to offer me the option of fresh buffalo mozzarella. I jumped at it. Once you have a good fresh mozzarella, you will never be able to go back to the rubberized version.
I like a bit of saltiness on my pizza, so I requested a few, just 4 anchovies, on my pizza. Not a problem.
The pizza from first bite to last, was exquisite. The tastes were perfectly combined, apportioned and executed. The crust was thin, but not over cooked and was wonderfully chewy. The leaves of basil on top of fresh mozzarella produced a creamy texture that brought out the sharpness of the basil. They could not have complimented each other better.
I was even able to wash this down with a nice glass of Italian red wine, Nero D'Avola.
The staff was just like the food, friendly, accommodating and warm.
Cabo San Lucas has been a mixed bag for me. more like California in attitude and prices than Mexico.
But Il Forno Pizzeria has been a diamond in the rough. If you are ever craving authentic Italian, come here, you won't be...
Read moreI do not recommend this place at all let me start my list, first what I surprise that when I arrived they lost my reservation which I made with almost 20 days in advance ok well we all make mistakes so they apologize and as a "compensation" the gave me the option to pick up my table which I said that I really don't care as long there's no people passing by over and over, well it looks like they said let's give here the table right in the middle where everyone pass by, anyways I was thinking maybe the night will get better and no, really small portions and no bread at all, yes who goes to an Italian restaurant and doesn't eat bread? nobody!! well all the tables around got it except us and the cherry on top was that I order 2 don Julio's and my son order 2 mango smoothies and guess which ones were more expensive, the smoothies!! I pay 25 usd for two smoothies insane!! the waiter never show me the drinks menu I should insist more for sure but he ignored us the most of the night so to make it short I paid the most expensive drinks, no good food, no good drinks, no good service and no bread not...
Read morePerfecto! My husband found the restaurant for my daughters 16th birthday two hours before the time we set for the reservation. We arrived and were taken to our own space which was absolutely perfect for the night. The ambiance and atmosphere was beautiful. We lived in Europe for several years and would put the food at the top of some we have had. The wait staff was fun and provided great service all evening. We ordered dessert and to our surprise the singer in the restaurant came over to sing to her as they brought out the dessert. They had written on the plate for her as well and the way her face lit up is a moment I will never forget. The dessert was equally as great as the dinner! I highly recommend any of the pizzas but especially the gnocchi with mussels and clams and the fettuccini with rob eye. The bruschetta and calamari we had for starters were also great. Dessert was tiramisu, perra cotta and volcano cake. Unfortunately the manager wasn't available as we were leaving or I would have hugged him. This was the perfect evening and my daughter was over the moon. Thank you so...
